Default cant decide on which coilover setup is better, need opinions...

i really cant decide on which is better suited for my aggresive daily driving. i need something built for speed, heavy cornering, good on bumps, and all that stuff.

i wanna spend under 800 at most and theses are the set ups i came up with.

1. TEIN basic- $673.32 shipped

2. Tokico HP blues + eibach pro springs- $465.85 shipped

3. Tokico Illumina + ground controls- $655.93 shipped

4. Koni Yellow + ground control- $802.09

those are the setups i've been looking at, please feedback one which would be good for my driving. i'm leaning towards adjustable height more but i wanna see feedback before i buy.

I have Tein basic's the ride is great but not having damper adjustments are a setback.
If i could do it again i would go with a shock with adjustable damper. With your ones you have selected i would do a Tokico Illumina GC or Koni GC setup.

I've been cutting springs for a long time..
I've seen alot of people mess up there springs doing this
And if your afraid of cutting the springs thats on it now
go to a junkyard..
what maybe 100 bucks at max and a 5 dollar grinder disc.

I KNOW.. alot of people on Honda-Tech disapprove of this
but I've done it to all 8 of my hondas and it rode just like many
peoples lowering springs and coilovers..
BTW None of the vehicles failed due to suspension problems EVER..

Ok your 20 years old now lets do some math here.

20 years old so that means you have been legal to drive for approx. 4 years. In those 4 years you have chop springed 8 cars. What is the longest you ever owned one of these cars? Unless your only cutting .5" off the spring. An OEM strut will not stand up to a drop of more than 1" - 1.25" at the most before it blows an internal seal prematurely.

I bet dollars to donuts the struts failed on the people you have sold the cars too within a year....I'm all for DIY stuff, don't get me wrong, but brakes and suspension are a safety related issue. Not only are you endangering yourself but everyone else on the road. And I think that is probably why a lot of people on H-T are against chopping springs on any car.

Plus the OP doesn't look like he's looking for a cheap drop. Posting up a list like the one he has here looks like he is willing to put some money into a reliable and proper handling setup.

Well, of course, if you are willing to spend $800, then get the Konis.

Yes I am 20 years old.. I have been driving for about 5 years (turn 21 in May)
The longest car I've owned was my beloved CB7 a total of 3 years and as far as cutting .5 off the spring try more 3 coils on front and 4 in back and as far as struts going out thats not a safety issue just makes it ride like **** so what a strut goes out its not going to make it pull one direction or another... so technically i dont see how im indangering anyones life

The reason why cutting springs is not appropriate or safe is because you:

1) Probably will never cut them the same length
2) You are completely f'ing up the spring rates (well same spring rate but much less travel space)
3) If you heat them (another popular ghetto way) you DO change the spring rates and it's bad
4) Car would be more prone to damaged suspension parts (bushings, shocks, etc)
5) Your shocks (oem) are not meant to take that beating.

It doesn't take $1000 to get decent suspension, for my friend we hunted around and spent $200 on a full Tokico setup and we installed it ourselves. His was mostly for looks but it replaced damaged suspension stuff as well.

I do track time in my car and I did go with a beefier setup (GC w/ custom spring rates/Koni Yellows) but no one is forcing you to spend that much especially if it's just a DD.

I would rather ride at stock height than cut stock springs, what a joke.

You sir, should be banned. Go drive your cut spring car off a cliff.

I know you want to go real low and everything but how about the quick strut from monroe...its basically all put together all you need to do is just plug em in and they will save you about $300 and not to mention valuable time not dealing with spring compressor bullsh*t!....however they are completely stock height etc.... so you might want to spend the extra $300 and get what you want if you really want that but it really sucks messing with springs and compressors.... cutting them really isnt the answer ever!
