Default HOW DO I DRILL OUT THIS BROKEN BOLT w/pictures!!

my motor mount broke on my single cam ZC
i tried a left handed drill but it didnt work. what else can i do!!?

i was able to get the bolt (cicled in blue) out cuz part of it was sticking out. The other bolt (circled in red) broke at the very end so i was unable to get a hold of it.

tried a left handed drill. got about a quarter inch deep. wouldnt budge.

lol i take it to my dad when i dont want to do it. but yea if your not comfortable doing it yourself take it somewhere. its worth it to no cause more damage and not deal with the headache of trying to fix it.

Of course its easier said than done in his case. He has to haul an engine around if he wants to take it somewhere.

no man, its actually pretty easy. i had the same problem. thats from the motor mounts right? if you have a right angel drill, drill bit, and screw extractor, it takes about 30min or less. make a hole down the middle of the screw with a drill bit, the take the extractor and turn it in(by hand) where you made the hole and the extractor will start bringing the screw out as you turn the extractor in.

what you can try to do is, get a dremel and make a slice so that you can get a flat head screw driver and turn that bolt out..

I did the same thing for a header stud that broke off like that, and it worked really well. The cutoff wheel might cut a little bit into the block, but you can patch that with JB weld.

Because of how important that bolt is towards the car and the engine already being out, i would take off the belt and send off the block. I would stop what your doing because it already looks like you might need new inserts. Talk to Jim @ Jim's Tap Extracting (310.324.4446). His in Torrance and is the best. All you have to do is take off the belt, the transmission could still be attached. If he suggests an insert GET IT!.

oh yea...the bolt was torqued down pretty good before it snapped so what method would be better since it was torqued down?

i bought a set of black & decker screw extractors for 8bucks. and so what i did was drilled a small hole in the center of the bolt. then i tapped the largest screw extractor lightly with a hammer into the small hole i drilled. then i twisted the screw extractor and it broke and now its stuck inside alskjdfl;jdsalkfj
im gona go with welding a nut to it once i get that piece of **** out...

i bought a cheap *** screw extractor from home depot and that **** snapped on me. i took it to a shop and they used a "snap-on screw extractor" and that **** broke too. i left the motor there with them for 2 hours and they were finallly able to get it out. they rethread the dam thing too. only charged me $30 bucks for everything. but heres the thing. when i screw in a bolt its pretty loose. like im able to wobble it around a lil. they warned me not to torque down the bolt. what i want to know is it safe to drive around again with a bolt thats shakey? would it put more weight on the bottom bolt and that snapped again as well? Dhould i teflon tape the bolt to make it tighter?

I agree. Sounds like they went with the closest standard size thread.

I've pretty much abandoned extrators, because unless you get lucky, and you do it perfectly parallel with the stuck bolt, they're often not strong enough, and just snap off.

You can still cut a slot, then get it out with a flathead impact screwdriver (the kind you strike with a hammer to turn).

get a hardened bit to drill in to it and use a fluted extractor, they work better than easy outs in my opinion
