...by trying to start the car while the battery is connected to a charger? Its one of those chargers where the transformer plugs into the wall socket and outputs 12v at 750mA. Im no longer getting spark and the secondary coil resistance is out of spec.

I heard that you can, it seems to have happened to me when my fuel pump went out. Tryin to turn it over constantly, and after i replaced the fuel pump the dizzy was done for as well as the coil.

What else can go wrong. I had the dizzy cap off when i was cranking the motor trying to get the rotor aligned so i can get to the rotor screw. The battery was at about 10v so i had the charger on it.

you can blow it if u have the spark isn't going anywhere ( spark plugs off) or what u were doing. Because the coil is producing and building up all this voltage and its not going anywhere.

Thanks for the verification. For future reference, how would you turn the motor over to align the rotor for removal? turn the crank by hand? or unplug the dizzy?
