Default 2001 Acura 3.2CL

Hey whats up guys, my father is looking to buy a second car. He just got his money back on an 01 Passat because it was having a lot of mechanical problems and he did not want to deal with it anymore. Anyway, he called me up and told me that he found an 01 Acural 3.2CL. Now he drove the car and he said he absolutely loved it, the price is right too. The only thing that hes worried about is the transmission problems that these cars were known to have. The car only has 58k on it I believe and right now seems to be in good mechanical condition. But right now my dad doesn't really want to buy it just because he heard about these problems with their transmissions. I told him to still get it, but I wanted to get everyones input on here.

So what would you guys suggest?

another thing, my dad had an explorer last year which he had to replace the transmission, that cost like 3k and it was a huge headache, so hes really trying to stay as far away from that happening again.

Yeah I was actually looking into a 01/02 CL, but after I learned the extent of the tranny problems especially in the '01s I was turned off. I believe the tranny problems were fixe d in 03. There's tons of literature on the net regarding this problem, I would do the research first.

But why not get a 01/02 Accord coupe. They have similar body, engine, etc and the accords don't have the transmission problems. You could even get a luxury edition for the leather and cd changer stuff.

Oh yeah your right, my brother in laws 02 accord has a leaky tranny. Ok just get a Camry and get it over with. It's also one of the cheapest to insure, btw the accord is one of the highest.

All of the automatic accord, cl, and tls from that generation had the problem.

The warranties have been extended to 107k or 110k for the automatic transmissions. check into it. acurazine.com is a good place for info on the cl and tl.

actually the 03 TLs were not fixed either. The problem with the transmission continued. My brother in law just recently had his transmission replaced by Acura under his warranty he bought extra with the car. If you do buy the car, make sure you buy the drivetrain warranty which will reduce the deductable for getting the transmission fixed. My brother in law paid 100 bucks but for the whole cost, it was around 3000. They mentioned somewhere that the issue with the transmission is that it starves oil from getting sent up to the gears to switch gears because of the clutch that was built into the transmission. This transmission is the auto-manual tranny with causes a big problem from the clutch particles overflowing through the tranny. Hope that helps...SInce they changed the tranny, its been running perfectly fine, hopefully this thing doesn't do that again!

oh yeah, if you ever do a tranny flush look at the fluid inside, its dirty! Usually trannys didnt get so dirty, the outcaome was almost identical to dirty motor oil.

manual conversion would consider to be a lot of work and money invested to some! and people wouldn't want to take their new car's engine out, leave it for the Dealership to handle it...Though it is nice for you to do your conversion.
