Default New Guy Here.....

Hello! My name is Kevin and I am going to be acquiring a new daily driver this week, an 88 Civic 4 door (I believe it's an LX) for free! I figured I'd find a decent Honda forum as I am not too familiar with Hondas.

I'm getting this to keep my 07 Mazdaspeed 3 in the garage and in mint condition as I add more engine goodies. It currently has a CAI, downpipe, test pipe, and BOV. I have long term plans of finishing the exhaust, adding a fmic, larger turbo, etc etc.

Now back to the Civic.... Are there any well known problems I should be aware of with this car? I plan on going to my mechanic to have him look over and do any regular tune up work just to make sure it won't be breaking down on me on the way to work. The thing has 170,xxx miles, so there is sure to be some wear and tear.

Just for ***** and giggles I was looking through the forum as well as ebay to find some aftermarket parts. I couldn't believe how cheap regular bolt on mods like intakes and exhausts are for these cars. I have a feeling I just got myself not only a daily driver, but another project.

If anyone has any tips for me regarding this car, can point me in the right direction for the best aftermarket parts, or has anything to say at all, please feel free. I will post some pictures soon.

Welcome! I have grown to know and love Hondas over the past 3 years because of my sons. They can be fun projects as well as big headaches. The projects and the headaches can be helped and resolved by using the SEARCH menu and by asking questions of others on this site. Good luck with your "new" car and if I can be of any asistance, I'll be sure to offer my opinion.

IMO i wouldnt dish all the money on the stock d series motor in that car if your looking for horse power. Look into doing a motor swap. But once again its just my opinion.

One well known Problem with EF's......

They will make you want to drive it all the time and forget about your mazda so much that you have to sell it before it builds a mountain of dust in your garage.

Plus pound for pound honda make the tuffest motor around

EF Sedan Squad official thread. This should keep you busy for a while and give you an idea of what's out there and possible.

Enjoy.

wilky - thanks for that thread, it'll definitely come in helpful.

ef9sirjeff - i wouldn't knock the mazdaspeed, it is a solid car. hopefully i can turn this honda into a solid/quick daily driver.

ef90_b20 - i'll look into a motor swap. what swap would you or anyone for that matter recommend? what kind of figures am i looking at for a motor/manual tranny swap?

thanks for all the help, hoping to have the car this weekend.... pictures will follow shortly.
