Default '90 Civic - Gauge and A/C illumination question

The instrument panel and a/c control illumination lights have just started giving me problems on my '90 Civic DX. Of course, this only happens when I have the headlights turned on...the control panel lights are fine when I start the car up (and turn the headlights on), but they'll soon flicker and/or dim, and then die completely. However, they come back on whenever I use a turn signal...and then they die again as soon as my turn signal "clicks" off. I was first thinking that it could be a fuse problem, but now I'm not so sure. Maybe just a short or something in the wiring? If so, where do I look, and how do I go about it? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the stalk/light switch. All of your lighting is routed through it. If using your signals makes something happen, it's probably right there in the switch or the harness.
