Lap records for Honda Challenge racers
Starnes owns it at CMP, I can't remember his qualifying time, 1:53 something.. My best there was a 1:54.3...

lap records have to be recorded during a race. Alex Ratcliff has it a CMP, Corey has it at Summit. that is only H2 though i would like to see something on the HC web site. PLZ.
You can pull them out of the results by looking at the Fastest Race Lap sort. We will have a Track Records section on the site as soon as I figure out a good/logical place to put it.
For now here they are:
Carolina Motorsports Park

Woo hoo! Though I have a strong feeling that it won't hold up for long. Especially if the next race there isn't quite so damn hot.

AAwww, Scottie's been spoiled by VIR and Road Atlanta...
I previously thought Roebling Road was the reigning king of concrete patches. Move over RR, Summit Point gets the crown. All hail the king!!!
Aww, come on Scotty, it's not that bad
Despite the bumpy pavement, it's a blast to drive on. Turn 4 is an absolute hoot, and 6-10 really teaches you consquences of making boo-boo's. If you screw up 6-10, you'll pay for it all the way down the front straight.

I won't argue that the course layout is great. Turns 3 and 4 absolutely ROCK and require you to get all swollen in the sack to do fast.
But I still didn't like it. I felt the entire facility from the bathrooms to the paddock to the racing surface were sub-par. This is, of course, just my opinion.
Maybe I have been spoiled by years of Road Atlanta, VIR, and CMP. But this really isn't such a bad problem to have now is it? I also can round trip to any of these places in less time than a one-way trip to Summit.

Summit Point is one of those places that you either love or hate. Most of us in the area have spent a LOT of time at the facility. Part of the appeal is its shitty enviornment. That ambience is what makes Summit Point unique. It doesn't get much more grassroots/backwoods than The Point. I have been around club racing my entire life. I grew up at places like Lime Rock, Bridgehampton, The Glen and Mosport. It has only been within the past 10-12 years that any of those facilities have gotten cleaned up. When I was a kid you were lucky to find even 1 shower at a track and if you had hot water you were uptown. To me Summit Point is no different then it was back in the good old days. It brings back a lot of memories.

Don't get me wrong, VIR is awesome.... I love it as well!
Scott, you must have missed the new showers/bathrooms by the Tower... Behind driving impressions...
Speaking of crappy track conditions...
Anyone ever been to Nelson Ledges Race Course in Ohio? I've never been to Summit Point, so I can't really compare, but... The facilities at this track resemble, well, I can't really think of a clever analogy. But anyone who has been there, you know what I'm describing.
But I've heard the track is a very enjoyable one, if your dampers are at the right settings.

Track records are from race lap times.
Nelson Ledges is the straight up ghetto track of all time
The "facilites" are lucky to have a roof, the track has great elevation changes if you add up all the little variations in the road surface, and the runoff areas tend to drop off sharply from the track, so you're going to be airborne if you loose it at the end of the carousel. Smooth-surface wise, Summit is a glass tabletop compared to Nelson, and VIR is the hubble mirror.
Still a blast to drive, tho. the kink 0wnz j00. 100+ MPH turns rock! And it'll always be my first one

One of my friends insists that I show up to Nelson one day to experience what mowing my own paddock spot is like.
My scouting report says that it's a crappy *** surface that you can't believe you're going so damn fast on.
Hey Scott, look at the top of the underside of the bridge on a cooldown lap if you can. Notice the car marks up there? Yeah...

I don't have to look, I'm pretty sure I left my own mark up there.
<insert any one of a hundred people here> - "Hey, why do you keep blipping/lifting/punching the throttle coming under the bridge?"
Scott - "I'm not."
<iaohph> - "Yes you are, everyone can hear it."
Scott - "My foot is bouncing off the throttle when I hit the bump."
<iaohph> - "Huh?"
Scott - "Nevermind."
