I took the whole assembly off and I know there is supposed to be a screw on the shaft but there isn't one. I can't take off the little cover because it is under the rotor. But I know from experience that there is supposed to be a screw right there. There's one even on the new one I'm supposed to replace it with. So what do I do?

 

You're gonna have to bump the starter in order for the rotor to spin to reveal that screw. Get someone under the hood to watch it while you bump the key until it is visible.

 

Plug your battery back in. Have a friend/neighbor/dog or cat with opposable thumbs, turn the key in the ignition to crank over the motor. Do it in little bursts. The rotor will turn as you crank your engine and reveal the screw. You can do it yourself, but you have to get in turn it a little, go and check for the screw, rinse, repeat until you see it.

 

i once bought a rotor from autozone that did not have a hole for the screw. i had them double check the application and they confirmed it was correct. it kinda snapped into place so i just put the srew in my tool box for future use. if your positive there is not a screw then you just need to pull the rotor, it takes some force

 

Yeah, if there's no screw you're supposed to pull it right off. Might I did recently took ALOT of persuasion. If it's shot like mine was, just tear it up! LOL

 

Thanks guys I'm going to go see if i can pull it off because there is not a screw on the shaft at all. I was wondering if I could pull it off but I wasn't too sure I would break something I wasn't supposed too.

 

Got it off and replaced it but still my car won't start. I've got fuel, changed the main relay, swapped out the dist. cap and rotor, checked fuses. I don't know what else to look for or do. But thanks for the help!

 

So is it getting no spark then? My car did this to me a few weeks back and it ended up being a bad coil. You can take it in to Advance or Autozone to have it tested for free before you go replacing things you don't need.
