Default Weight savings for these items...

Can anybody make an educated guess as to what I might save with the following weight reduction attempts on my 88 hatch? I'm debating what to do next:

-cut frame out of hood and remove latching mechanism. My guess: 12-15 lbs
-replace rear side windows with lexan. Guess: 12-15 lbs
-replace rear hatch window with lexan. Guess: 15 pounds
-remove metal frame/bracket from front bumper: no guess, I've never even taken off the bumper to see what it looks like. People tell me it can be done and that the JDM bumper does not even have these parts.

That's about as far as I'm willing to go. Has anybody got better estimates? Thanks.

If you're planning on using the car in competition, you should check the rules of the group you're running with to make sure these things are legal.

right now i'm running with EMRA and not many of these items are legal in my class. However, once i've done my B16 swap (and added 100 pounds in doing so), i'll be in a class where i can do all of this stuff.

Here's a hint, prep the car so it's legal in multiple series EMRA doesn't do too many events a year, so it would be cool if you could run the car in ECHC too.

It's up to you.

Are any of these mods allowed in ECHC? Assuming I'm running in the class of B16 powered 88 hatchbacks?

B16 powered 88 hatches go to H1 where most, if not all, those mods are not legal. If the HU class goes on the books for next year, you will be legal in there. You will just have to fear Tom Stewart and his WC Spec Si.

the bumper supports in my 93 hatch weigh 14 lbs each if I recall correctly. I think the FAL website states that their lexan window kit saves 5-7 lbs over the stock side rear windows, which isn't much considering the cost of the kit. The biggest weight savings in terms of windows comes from replacing the rear hatch window with a lexan piece...I think it saved in the area of 15-20 lbs. You can double check these numbers on the FAL website. You can also save quite a bit of weight by going with a lightweight racing bucket. The stock seats in my 93 hatch weigh 32 lbs and a good fiberglass-backed shell weighs about half that.

But hey, as I'm sure you know saving weight on rotating or unsprung mass is the way to go! Volks own

I agree. I already have 2 sets of 93 Civic VX wheels which weigh like 8 pounds each, as well a a Sparco seat. Thanks for the info.
