DOT R-Compounds....what's written on your sidewall?
Most (if not all) DOT r-compound tires have a warning or disclaimer stamped on the sidewall. I'm trying to get a sample of what each make/model has indicated.
If you can run to your basement, garage (or living room for those of you who live in apartments
) and check the wording on your tires and post up the make and model along with the phrase, I'd appreciate it!
I believe most Hoosier models have "Not for highway use"
Thanks!

DOT approved tires are not going to have this statement on them. That is the whole point of the DOT approval.
All DOT R compounds will have some sort of tread. Even if its just two grooves around the tire. See a picture of a Kuhmo V710.
I dont think hoosiers are DOT approved.

What does this have to do with the question I asked?

I have Hoosier A6s, Kumho V710s, and Avons in my garage and will probably load some of each into my car Saturday, if nobody has reported back by then...
I found a few others doing some digging.
Nitto NT01
sidewall reads: "recommended for competition use only"
sticker reads: "not intended for highway use"
Hankook Z214
sidewall reads "for competion use"
Toyo RA1
sidewall reads: "recommended for competition use only"
Anyone got some old Kumhos (Ecsta v700 or Victoracer), Yokos (A032 or A048) or some old Hoosiers? I'll check my 710s tonight and post them tomorrow.

Many enthusiasts choose to drive RA1s, A032, A048 and other DOT R-compound tires on the street. It's always good to know if your car complies with the local laws.
What do you think an officer would do if he pulled you over and saw "for competion use" stamped on your tires?

If thats the only reason, a hot iron would melt that warning right off.

A cop would pull you over, pop your tires and make you push the car home uphill.
I honestly dont think many cops even bother to check on something like that unless it's obvious you're running slicks or so.
