Default Kumho supras + snow and ice = ftl?

I have kumho supras (about 90% tread) on my daily right now. Will I survive the winter in Ithaca with them, or should I get "snow tires" or something all-season?

TIA

My brother used to live in Ithaca, the winters are pretty nasty there. Thos tires are absolute crap, a better M/S tire such as Kumho Ecsta ASX or Pirelli Pzero Nero M+S would grip better under any conditions.

That's true, but in Ithaca, you would be MUCH better off getting some real winter tires (like the Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50) rather than the all-season tires like the Kumho or Pirelli he mentions. Pick up a used set of wheels or steelies for the winter tires, so you don't have to mount and balance tires twice a year. Even new steelies are inexpensive.

I drove those on snow/ice in NC. Thankfully we only get a few days of snow/year, because while the Ecsta Supra's were not impressive on dry pavement, on snow and ice they were much worse. They pretty much had no traction at all.

BTW, that's generally true of most summer tires, not just the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712.

Only if you have a bus pass. Summer tires are exactly what they suggest, tires meant for summer weather.

Cheers.
