f sereis trannies are only little bit (very little) shorter than the h22 tranny ... what i did in my accord was use an h23 tranny (M2S4).. its the shortest f/h series tranny of them all .. gear ratios are equivilant to a gsr tranny....
but if you have some extra money (but not enough for H2b) you could go with a JDM H22 LSD tranny which is also just as short as the H23 tranny but its LSD

Dont listen to him, he doesnt know what he is talking about, here are the numbers.
H22 Gear Ratio -
1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th FD
M2A4 - 3.307 - 1.950 - 1.360 - 1.034 - 0.787 - 4.266
H23 Gear Ratio -
M2S4 - 3.307 - 1.857 - 1.320 - 1.034 - 0.812 - 4.266
F22 Gear Ratio -
M2L5 - 3.307 - 1.810 - 1.230 - 0.903 - 0.705 - 4.062
F22 tranny's have the longest gear ratio of them all and a longer final drive, h22 have the shortest gear ratio of them all. Remember when talking about gear ratio, the high the number means the shorter the length of the gear.
And further more, no h23's do not have the same gearing of a gsr here are the numbers for a gsr tranny, and you can compare them to the ones above
1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th FD
S80 - 3.23 - 1.9 - 1.36 - 1.034 - 0.787 - 4.4
Another huge difference betweent he b series trans and h/f trans is the final drive. That is nither here or there, but theres your info.

im not sure what you mean by really vague, when i had my prelude my shiftings felt great, and now i have an h2b in my hatch, so i dont have cable linkage and it feels great too.... maybe just his car

i have used both h22 and h23 trany .. when i swapped mine to the m2s4 tranny i was in higher revs at certain speeds when compared to the h22 tranny ...
also with the h22 tranny i would shift and come out of vtec for a second .. with the h23 tranny i never leave vtec..
