2008 honda civic coupe si...
i wus thinking about getting a coupe si..
around $20000 it is prolly one of the best cars out there
and it is gas efficient and fun...(vtec baby)
but after i visited websites and honda forums, there seems to be many si owners having the 3rd gear transmission problem(not engaging into the 3rd sometimes, or popping right back).
all of you guyz have da problem???or is it just a few???
how bad is this transmission problem? any of you guys who own it,
is it so bad that you are bothered to drive? would you still recommend it??
i wus soo excited to get an si, but now im so sad that im reconsidering of purchasing...

i jus recently got a 08 SI 2 weeks ago and so far I LOVE IT...dont worry too much about the "3rd gear transmission problem" i dont have it..the SI is a great car for the price..trust me on this..u wont regret buying the SI
ALmost two years i've had mine and it's fine with me. I bet half the people that have this issue with popping out of gear are just people that shift incorrectly or don't fully engage the clutch when shifting. Minor mistakes that can simulate a big problem.
I knew of the issue, but decided to take a leap of faith and buy one anyhow
According to the interwebz, my Mini Cooper also had a glass tranny (midlands), but in 4 years, that never gave me an issue. So who knows.
I do really like my Si, though. But I've only had it about 130 miles, so maybe I'm not the best one to judge

yeah i have a few friends have this car
and they all told me that they have the same problem...one said that he knew about the trans problem and still went buy it.... im sure it doesnt bother driving THAT much... but still concerned about the problem since i never really got a chance to actually experience the problem....

There is definately an issue with the 3rd gear... however, 90% of the problem comes from not letting it reach operating temp. When its COLD the tranny loves to dump 3rd gear. Once it warms up there is almost never an issue.
Overall, the car is worth every cent you pay despite any minor flaws you will find. If you can get one, do it.

It's a valid problem. A disproportionate number of Si owners have identical symptoms.
It's not likely to be a user problem since it's limited to one gear. Or it is in my case anyways. I've been driving standard cars for 25 years. The 3rd gear behavior I have isn't caused by the driver.
That being said, this problem wouldn't stop me from buying the car again. It's not a frequent problem, maybe happens once in every two hundred 3rd gear shifts. The rest of car pleases me to no end. It's as fun to drive as any car I've ever owned. For the price, it's a lot of car that will bring endless smiles to the driver.
