Default 99 Si with a B20Z2.....idle problems! Help!

Hey guys this might sound really stupid to some of you but im not all to knowledgeabl about this so Im ask here to get a idea of what might be wrong. Situation is this Im about to buy this car a 1999 Civic Si that has been modified and seems to have a B20Z2 block I know a lil something about swap and just from a 10min inspection of the engine bay it seems the previous owner did a fair amount of modifiing. only problem I have witnessed is it cant hold its idle/doesnt idle. starts up fine and runs like a champ but will die if your not bliping the throttle to keep the RPMs up when at a low speed or at a stop. From what i was able to find out the story about how the car ended on the lot is the first owner had it did the swap and then sold it to some knuckle head and he didnt take care of it/didnt know how to take care of it. The second owner sold it to this used dealer ship and they dont know how to fix the idle problem(Im in South Georgia and these guys are like street mechanics). It had a chipped ECU (dont knw which one yet) with Hondata s200 running. The mechanics at the dealership didnt know what that was and were trying to make a quick sale so they figured we'll just swap in a stock Si ECU and stock fel rail/injectors and it should work. It didnt. What could be the problem. Does it just need to be tuned or what. Sorry for the long post. I what to buy this car but dont want to get it if its junk. Help me out Thanks

You mention a B20Z block. Does it have the B16 head on it?

yeah i think so. didnt know if there was somwhere i could look on the head to identify it. But i think that what it was a b16 head on a b202 block.

This isn't overly identifying, but if you see a vtec sol on the left side of the head then the head was at least swapped.

A stock SI ecu will not correctly run a B20 since it's only giving enough fuel for a 1.6 liter and not a 2.0, so it's running lean off the bat. If a manual transmission is mated to the block then you will need some sort of aftermarket ecu support to accommodate the B20. The fuel maps are off, and more than likely a few mechanical aspects need to be adjusted to level off your idle.

ok thanks for the reply. At one time it did hae a chipped ecu running hondata (which is still in car just not installed) along with a adj fuel rail and larger than stock injectors (not sure of the actual size). All of these things they give me if I buy the car for me to re-install if i want to. I went on the hondata site and did some reading elsewhere and came to the same conclusion as you. My question just is this would it be hard/expensive to fix this problem? And what might be need to fix this or what, besides the a diferent ecu, might i need to get this running right or at least ok till i can get it to a tuner. I need a DD and this car works fine once in motion it just the idle at low speeds is a pain in the *** and once it dies i woud have to get jumped off to get her moving again.

P.S. Never had a swapped car before and not familar with how to maintain/tune it properly by myself. Have a couple of places i could go to in savannah, ga or jacksonville, fl but havent found a tuner who tunes with hondata.

Y'know it just sounds to me like it needs to be tuned.

None of these places are within a day of you?
