Need White (Daylight type) lights for Honda Civic
Hey guys! First post here.
I Own a Honda Civic 2003 DX. Right now I have the yellow headlights. one of the bulbs burnt out, so I'm thinking of replacing both bulbs with the ones that give higher visibility and have a white bright light. I'm not very "cars" literate, so I need some help deciding which bulbs will be the right one.
I took one of the bulbs out and the 'DRL' light came on. I then inserted the Phillips H4 bulbs they were suppose to have a white bright light. I turned the lights on, the light was brighter than the OEM bulb, but it was still yellow. Not white.
I was looking at "Sylvania Silverstar Ultra Bulbs" but I read that they have a short lifespan. Also someone said I shouldn't use these on a civic. (didn't give a reason as to why) and I was also told that the light of these bulbs will be yellow in a civic not white.
Any recommendations would be really appreciated
thanks

in response to your original post i have heard good things about the sylvania bulbs but dont actually have much personal experience with types of bulbs. as far as getting your lights brighter i know alot of people on here switch to HIDs if thats the route you want to go
Thanks I guess I will check out the silverstar bulbs, by the way what is HID? I searched it and came up with Xenon lights. is HID opposite to DRL? Sorry really new to this.
thanks
thanks
the silverstars are great lights, except they burn out every 8-9 months, but they have a 1 year warrenty so just bring in the old and get the new.
if youir going HID then you cant just pop in a bulb, you'll need to buy the whole headlight assembly, have them aligned and risk getting ticketed (depending on the laws in your area, some places in Canada prohibbit the use of HID lights that didnt come factory with the vechile)

My first set lasted almost 2.5 years, so I would have to disagree there.
My second set is on the car right now, 6 months and counting.

i had silverstars in my car for maybe 8-9 mos and they burnt out >.< then i got hid's for like 100 bucks on ebay and when the ballast had problems i just sent them back due to malfunctions and they sent me a brand new one and they've been working like a charm!
you wanna also look at temperature too when you're picking out your hid's the lower the number the more "yellow" it looks as you progress in numbers the more "blue" or "purple" it looks but if you want white white it'd go with 8000k

I just purchased and installed Silverstar ultras on my civic, they are bright and white but the bulbs have a small hint of yellow.
oh and found this pic, relating to temperature

yeah, that's pretty good, my step bro got a kit and the temp is 14k and it wasn't so much blue it's more of a pink purple here

this might help, but enjoy ur silverstars
it'll be cheaper in the long run to just upgrade to the hid's when the silverstars blow out, the lifespan is a lot longer.

They cost me 275 shipped from Umnitza, a company that specializes in PnP kits for BMW's and other euro cars. I had it for 2-3 months before selling it with the stock headlights for cheap. I believe a guy by the name of Sean still has them on this site and theyre still working just fine. As for me, my bixenons and I are still going strong

What that graph doesn't show, is luminance (which is far more important than color temperature).

Yeah, that's my nature.
I just prefer products that function along with looking good.

Ha lm is everything with light! in the words of the ancient Beer, and his law, appropriately called "Beer's Law", transittance (in this case output) is inversely proportional to absorbancy (having color). in dummy terms, the more color you have away from white light (which is about 4300k, a little off from the chart above), the less output you have. phillips d2s 4300k bulbs put off about 3200lm, and start to drastically drop after about 6000k. those 8000 and 10000k lights you see all over ebay actually have the same or even less lm than a decent set of halogens.
Ok so, after installing the light bulbs, just 2-3days after, I started getting completely yellow light. WTF?
I installed silverstars on my 2003 Civic DX. In "Day running Lights" mode, they were completely yellow! when I turned the lights up to Low Bean I got white colored lights. But After 3 Days, I noticed that the Lights were completely yellow! Even when i turned them onto Low bean, I still got Yellow Light, instead of white.
Wtf happened here? can someone explain?
thanks

Did you touch the glass portion of the bulbs? Because the oils on your skin actually destroys the glass used in those headlamps.
If at all possible, get some photos.
