Default 1.5 Years away from a S2000

Old post. Wow, that was 3 years ago. Time goes by fast.

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=747443

Now it makes more sense for us, because the S2000 will be our 3rd car. A car we don't drive much, and a car to cure my need to mod (since I've traded my SE-R Spec V for an airport rental grade Cobalt as my DD). By now, I mean 1.5 years aways when the lease for our 06 Accord is up.

When I had my Civics (and current Accord), maintance was not really a big deal. Meaning, it was "regular priced" and we could go anywhere to get it done. We will have to pay to get work done. Don't have the time (2 kids) or space, experience, etc, etc.

My questions are:

- How much more maintance does S2000 require compare to Civic/Accord?
- Do dealership charge you more for S2000 vs Civic/Accord maintance? I understand some parts may be unique. But I would think many parts are just the same Honda parts. For example. Acura charges more for the same Honda parts.
- Many of you guys also own Honda products, can you offer an example of how much more to insure a S2000?

I'm sure these questions are not new. But I don't hang out there much. So your replies are appreciated.

Maintenence is very affordable on the S..Sorry I cannot compare it to an Accord. They are different cars, the obvious answer is they are going to require a little different care.

For insuranc, click the link in my sig.

The accord/civic/S2000 maintainence schedules are pretty much identical. It's a 105k mile major tune up under normal driving conditions.

I road race mine....not sure if you plan on doing that. Really the only maintainence it has needed is oil changes, tires, and brake pads. No big deal.

The difference is that some of the parts cost a little more.

The brake pads are pretty cheap, so no big deal...they should be around the same $$ as an accord. I think I paid like $120something for the whole set of OEM honda pads (I use those on the street). The labor shouldn't be any more than an accord. They're just single piston calipers.

The rotors are the same as a RSX type S or a TSX or accord, IIRC. So...no real differences there.

Tires, however are expensive. They also wear out a lot faster than the usual accord tire. This has been largely improved on the newer S2000s, however, due to a new alignment setting.

The oil changes may cost more since the S2000 takes 5 quarts and a unique oil filter that's a little more expensive (like $5 more).

Honda does a lot of parts sharing. So there are actually going to be some accord parts, RSX parts, civic parts etc. are interchangeable.

It's a honda...so it requires pretty light maint. The work is also very straight forward and simplistic...so the labor charges shouldn't be much unless someone is ripping you off.

The trans fluid is on a 30k schedule. It takes around 1.5 quarts- 2 quarts...so 2 bottles of honda MTF just like the other cars. The diff fluid is additional...since the accord doesn't have an external diff. 1 quart of Regular *** 80w/90 works. You can buy expensive stuff as well.
