the water could be from condensation that was in the pipe the black color is probably carbon that is loose in the exhaust system.

water is a natural by product of burning gas.....the exhaust hasn't heated up enough to keep it in a steam form...should dissapear in a few minutes

It's all natural baby....you can actually drink it....NOT...

That is why you may notice that most OEM or replacement mufflers (except Stainless ones) have a tiny weep hole on the bottom near the end. It allows the liquid byproduct to drain and not rust out the aluminized steel.

Not that it could be the cause of your problem, but you should never let gasoline sit for more than a few months as it tends to break down and form a gummy buildup.

I think it may depend a lot upon your climate and the tenancy for condensation. I have seen a good 6" diameter puddle under my muffler some mornings here on the east coast of Canada. Seems like it's usually bigger on the cool, dewy/foggy mornings. But there is always some form of water that comes out at all times. It's usually in the form of steam. Stick your hand in front of your exhaust pipe and you can feel the moisture in the exhaust.
