Default EP3 - Koni's not an option for us, now what? -HELP a Hick!-

my stockies are leaking, i'm on NUESPRING RACING Springs = 2"DROP
i had planned on getting koni yellows...
so i called 5 shops in MN ...most don't even know what a "tuner" is! (Hicks)
after a few minutes of explaining what "KONI's" were, they said "can't do 'em"-
"too hard to install" - "we don't do after market stuff here" -"don't know anything about them" "only in-house parts" etc...
ok... So, when i asked "WHAT KIND DO YOU" install, they gave me the "OUR patented..." sales pitch. (Sensa-trac, Ride-Rites, etc....)
what can i do, if i can't get Koni's???
it's a hard driven-DD -

one shop said if i get aftermarket struts, i can have them installed for $300 +/- ???
is that a good price?

UPDATE- going with Tokico D-Specs

Thats pretty cheap considering the labor involved. Do they know what it takes to install konis on your car?? I suggest you call and ask. There is some cutting involved and they may not be aware of this and may charge you more later...

yeah, i know the koni thing is out of the question,

that's why the thread is titled "Koni's not an option for us"
i'm assuming they think it's going to be a 2 hour job, give or take...
they havent seen the car, but said if i wanted to find high performance shocks, they would do the install...
...it was just a "Quick $ Quote- over the phone" for a "basic Civic" install.
(Hicks!)

so- BESIDES the KONI's... what else is a "bolt on" oem replacement,
built for high performance, that these fools can install right... ???
-if i put on oem, i'll just blow them again...

Tien Super streets? Tokimoto? Ground Design? Progress? ...Monroe sensa Trac? LOL...
-TODD... Where are U?!!!!

Hi Im new here...

Actually there is a Koni option for the EP. The sport kit can be found at Tirerack.com, they also sell the Koni springs seperately. Im assuming that Koni makes good stuff?

There is definitely a Koni option...I have a brand new set in my basement right now. The problem is that the front strut needs to be modded before you can install them. But, it really isn't that difficult to do.

And I'd buy a new set of OEM shocks before I bought Monroes.

As suggested, look into Tokicos. I believe they have a bolt-on EP3 application.

are either of the tokico's (D-SPEC OR Blues) "bolt on" or do they have to be modded?

i recently installed tokico blues and they are bolt on with no modification necessary. They are a little soft as far as the dampering, but a good strut.

get a full coilover or damper setup. (shocks and adjustability). for around 1000 bucks youll have a good ride and you can adjust the height and dampening levels for your car. PM me if you want some more info

A lot less than coils (overkill for his setup/needs anyways) but you lose height adjustability: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW

I have them and the ride is amazing. I like where at sits and don't want to fuss around with adjusting the height anyways.

the lowest they could do was $525... so i held off... anyone else cheaper? or should i grab them?

OH, and TODD-0G (or anyone with supreme knowledge)
these "Sring-Shock- Kits" that come with the D-Specs... all of the springs specify a 1" or 1.5" drop...
so, will the stroke be too short or too long on my Nuesprings-2"drop? (i'm starting to learn this stuff from osmosis!)

the problem is that they are not height adjustable... but is that REALLY a problem, or no?

i wouldn't want to put them on, then have them feel mushy- even on the hardest setting...
(I Gotta have my "MAN!, is this thing on RAILS" stiffness! or it wouldn't be worth the hassle)

..if i could, i'd just weld the stockies there, and go for the Real "GO-KART" feel
but i think the resale value would drop!

They will be fine with your springs. These things are FIRM. Stiffest setting makes you bounch your head off the seat all day.

Are you married to your Neuspeed EP3 springs? From what I found, they lower the car a little too much without significantly upping the springrate. You'll get a good ride, but it won't handle corners all that well and it'll suck on bumps.

I still feel that the Tein S-techs are the *best* lowering spring made for the EP3/RSX, because they lower the perfect height for suspension geometry and the springrates are exactly what they need to be for good performance and ride.

If you can, I'd consider switching to the D-Specs and putting on some S-tech springs. Then sell your Neuspeeds to recoup some of the money. I had Neuspeed springs on my EP3 for about a month before I got rid of them.
