HyperFest - Drifl and Roll Competition
Yes, Three cars in the roll over contest...2 rolled and 1 actually went 2 times.
The winner had 4 roles.
Drift comp. was a lot of fun, mostly people just having fun. The real comp. was in the Honda Challenge race...people were serious about that. The event at Lowes should be out of control.

What about burnout competition? A pseudo-MMSport member won (comes to our events with a member).
Edit: Anyone have any pics of our friend wasting tires on his Benz?

The Drifting comp. well SUCKED... the burnout contest... yeah it sucked too... i was very very unimpressed with those 2 events... almost unhappy with roll-over until "eat-at-daves"rolled 4 times... that was quality....

How would you like to see it improved? Please note that the rollover entrants don't practice that, what were you expecting? The drifting entrants don't ever have a chance to practice either, there aren't any drift-friendly organizations around. The burnout contest... it's a burnout contest, what were you looking for?
I look forward to seeing you out there next year, you have as much experience in the events as 95% of the entrants did.

my friend got video of pretty much every drift attempt...a few cars actually manage what might pass for a drift in japan, although not necessairly a contest-winning one....the majority display push, and those that do get the tail out usually spin. I think the concrete strips in the middle of the turns probably made things difficult...the 944 turbo that put out alot of smoke and noise appears to be doing a 1-wheeled burnout rather thana drift in most cases. The Gumball 3000 M3 is really funny in practice, did he have his stability control on? The car just won't do anything...

I wonder if NASA would have "drifting practice" at the track sometime for those who want to enter at Hyper-fest. I would actually go buy a set of junkyard wheels and tires for my car and put them on at the track to try this
, then enter the competition at Hyperfest II. My 190 HP just isn't enough to break the back end loose with Kumhos!
Although, I think it will be like my experiences at the drag strip -- fun once a year, but just makes me want to go back to the track.

The drift competition wasn't THAT bad. The 944, the 300Z, and the 240SX all did a pretty good job, as well as Chad's friend - who had the right car, but not a lot of experience. My thoughts on the whole thing were the same as already mentioned - they did pretty good considering that there isn't really a place to practice. What can I say about Warren's attempts? Well... he definately had the best lap times of any of the drifters.
The rollover contest appeared to be a bust, until the last car went. The first car lifted throttle when it hit the ramp, resulting in a single barrel roll. The second car, NASA's own Alicia Politi, got a great launch off the ramp, but her initial impact broke off one of her front wheels and the car never went over. She told me later that she didn't turn the wheel hard enough. Then the last car went, and THAT kicked ***! I think the first roll was end over end, followed by 3 more barrel rolls. It was exactly what everybody was hoping to see!
I didn't stay for the burn-out contest though....

I wonder what would happen if we had drifting practices AFTER our regular events - like for $50 or so..........
What a great way to learn car controland get ready for the next drifting contest.
A car, a crummy pair of tires a little time - who knows.....

Nasa officials
True-
But doesn't anyone see the benefits of this type of practice?
It Would bring in more money to NASA = more track dates =more play time...
It's a circle thing - but seriously, it's like getting on the skid pad without the water.
BTW- I didn't think that it would be anything, but I havbe to admit it was interesting watching people trying to get their cars into a controlled drift.
Except for Warren..........

We are putting together a plan to offer drift practice at some of our regular events. Don't worry, nobody's track time will suffer. If we do this it will be at the end of the day for about 45 min.
Peace,
Chris

Most people felt that the drifting was entertaining because it was fun to watch amateurs out there. I have to admit that I really wasn't sure how the drifting would be accepted by some the hardcore roadracers like myself but....I really thought it was pretty cool and found myself wanting for my very loose RX7.
