Bad paint HELP Media blasting down to metal
Bad paint HELP Media blasting down to metal
One of my friends said that walnut shells would be the ideal media to remove the imperfections, I have a sizable dent in the passenger door that I plan on replacing with another door instead of bondo or body filler
I would love to blast every nook and cranny of this car and paint everything a silverish dark grey pearl
door jambs
both sides of hood and trunk
the floor, after removing the sound deadener and carpet
the bay after removing the motor and such
I wont tuck it but i might shave it
any reputable sand blast facilities in Arizona that anyone can vouch for?
Here are some bad night pics of the car as it sits
The entire car has krylon all over it, and no it was not my doing... I bought it dirt cheap

I barley understand the bodywerk ling0 but thanks none the less
I found some dude who will strip the entire car for 650 by means of walnut media blasting, just talked to him this morning
I just have a large amount of work to do before I can get to that point...

media blasting is a possiblitly. at the same token however you could opt for plastic media. i stripped a full sized GMC like this. its gentle enough to not create any new dents or dings. its a great process but you MUST get your bodywork done STAT and get an acid etch primer on it before it starts to rust. then seal it and continue your bodywork

media blasting is when you have to shoot something to the surface to get it off, sounds like fun and fast until you shoot something too hard too fast and get a bunch of dings.
it shouldnt be a problem if you are blasting paint off a wheel or solid metal but some of the unibody panel is paper thin, which you might have problem with dings from the media blast. walnut shell is pretty "soft" media but who can garentee something like that?
the other way to stripe paint is by chemical or sanding

I guess I will have to take the risk... the guy who owns the sandblasting business does all automotive work and restoration of classic cars +hot rods; they all need extra special care.
I have the option of suiting up and doing it myself, but a pro will be better at it.
I will goto the trouble of removing all the moldings taping up the interior and engine bay, removing all plastics and taping the glass and removing all lenses.
Turn around time was 2days, then we'll be hitting the car with etching primer, body filler and more primer.
nighthawk black-pearl or some dark grey, I'm still undecided at this point.
Still sourcing pieces for the front end, trying for a nasty all glass EDM front end with 2x f1spec HID modules and trimmed grill supports with a retrofitted BYS lip painted

today's unibody is nothing like "classic" back in the day. at least have the dude do it for you.
do you even need etching primer? how bad is the condition right now?
