Default Fabrication from last week...fuel tank and exhaust

This is one of our shop cars, a '50 Olds convertable with a Shelby Cobra drivetrain. The fuel cell is 21 gallon and fabed out of .125" 3003 aluminum. I used 1100 filler on all the seams (3/32 and 1/16) and 1/8" 5356 for the 6061 -8 AN fitting on the bottom (I cut the barb off later). I used a Dynasty 300dx to glue it all together. No leaks on the first try

The exhaust starts with modified shelby headers to 3" V bands, stock cobra cats to 2.25" v-bands then all 304SS tubing to 2 magnaflow mufflers. The pictures are just one rear section but i should have more when I take the whole thing out of the car.

Awesome work. I love the quick adjust c-clamps, and nice choice in helmet btw. I have the same one.

Thanks, honestly, The shop had 2 full 4x8 sheets of it and I know it's suitable for a fuel tank, so i used it. The other 2 aluminum fuel tanks I have made were 5052 and those worked fine too.

here ya go...

haha thanks...I think

The car wont be done anytime soon. We just work on it when we can, usually only 1 or 2 days in a row. I'll try and get some more pics from this week though.

I'm really not very good with aluminum but that machine does help a lot, especially on old cast or dirty stuff. I had the office guy take close ups just for you today, but they were all blurry. Just imagine an average, kinda wavy, weld that doesn't leak haha.

SICK work! Really nice.

I guess you opted not to back purge the exhaust tubing? We don't always do it either, and haven't seen a single one crack so far.

Nice shop too!

Car looks sick! What is that bar going from the front of the car to near the differential?

thanks guys

No i never back purge exhaust stuff. like you I have never had a problem.

We have been working on making the shop clean and organized for a few months now. The previous crew were slobs haha

The bar? I think you are looking at the shift linkage (i made that too ). This is a small supercharged oldsmobile V8 with a 6sp transaxle in the back. I think it's the same tranny a Pantera uses. Maybe I should have clarified that this isn't a mustang cobra drivetrain. It's a shelby series 1 cobra.
