Default HELP =( My car just died while driving...

1996 Honda Civic EX w/ 2000 B16A2 on chipped P28 with stock B16 basemap

I was driving for 30 seconds and then the car died just a km or two away from home. RPM was dropped to 0, lost P/S; I managed to pull into a side street. CAA/AAA wait time is 3 hours so I just left it there for now.

Does anyone know what it could be or what I should try to look for?

Car cranks and main relay clicks. From what I've know, its probably something to do with ignition, like distributor and spark. How do you check for spark? Take off the plug from the spark plug, jam a screwdriver, lay it on the valve cover and check spark? Could it possibly be bad spark plugs?

Previous symptoms:
- When driving in the cold and parking it in a heated garage for 3 hours, car would start funny. I would have to hold throttle or else the car would die. Car would start back up if I hold throttle. Problem would go away after 10 seconds and drive normally.

I am so glad I left 2 hours early for my midterm exam.

Sounds like the fuel pump may have gone on vacation...

You are somewhat correct about spark, Dont JAM the screw driver in. just sit it in the spark plug wire and put it to a ground and try to crank vehicle.

you will see if there is spark.

Possibly fuel pump or might have a bad coil or igniter

Oh man... its -30C outside so I am just going to tow it to the shop because even if I find the problem, what am I going to do?

What sucks is the car died 1 km away from home and 1 km away from the shop. CAA wait time is 3 hour for a tow.

ive personally had a few problems just like that. one time i had a bad main relay. it would click like normal but for some reason wasnt powering the pump half the time. so i would step on the throttle and have a wild startup. it would die on me a few times, even on the highway. the last problem i had was no spark. my coil went bad on the highway about a couple weeks ago and i also figured out the crank position sensor went out too so i replaced the dizzy. you could have either or. coils and main relays seem to be notorious for going out on civics

Hey, so I got my car towed to the shop. The tow truck driver said he can roll my car in 1st, ..., does anyone know why? Can't wait to hear back from the mechanic, I hope its just a small job.

i could be the distributor, i've had the same problem. after changing the distributor the car started and ran fine. but thats only my opinion. it could be something else, but i would say try the distributor.

mines did the same, jdm b16a obd1 swap into my 98 hatch. it was driving fine and just died on me on the highway...luckily it started up but drove like **** to the nearest gas station. checked everything, thought it was my ecu, changed that out to my spare one, nothing! the car started up but it idled weird, drove home without stopping much pulled into the garage and checked everything, it was the iacv plug...it was that cause when we changed it from the three wire to the two wire for obd issues, the wire just came undone from the taping. redid the entire clip and voila, fixed my own issues there...check that, that could just be it...gl though
