Default Problem with Innovative H22 lower alternator mount

I'm trying to decide if it's worth it or not to mod the lower timing belt cover. Anyone know what kind of plastic the lower cover is (ABS perhaps?) so that I can find something that will bond to it? Has anyone else run into this issue?

If you wanted you could just take a file and extend the mounting holes. That would allow the alternator to move further in line.

Maybe contact Innovative about the issue? i am sure they could help.

I need to do some more measuring, but I think the pulley is in line, I think it's just the bumpout in the cover. I'll look some more tomorrow.

If the belt didn't rub with the OE mount, then there must be a slight alignment issue with the new mount. Optionally, you could try using a belt with one less rib and move it toward the outside of the pulley. The wear patten on the belt will tell if the alignment is off or not.

It doesn't rub with the stock OE mount because the OE mount bolts to the block in a different place. If you look closely at the pictures, you'll notice that the Innovative alternator mount bolts to the block where the A/C mount normally bolts to the block.

Ah, I see. In that case, a different width belt should work fine.

perosnally i think it is the mount, at one point i modified a stock ac bracket from an f23 (since it was partially stamped steel rather than cast iron), and mounted it down low, there was no issue like that.
the only thing that would prove me wrong is if i used a 5 rib belt though, and this was long enough ago that that could have been the case.

I doubt its the bracket, I dont think my JDM motor has that hump on the cover. But you could file it down or use a 3 rib belt.

Apply a heat gun and push the bump in. Are you even running the balance shafts?

^^ thats what i was going to suggest. those lower timing covers are a bitch. If it weren't for them keeping debris from flying in there i would take it off.

i trashed mine.. kept getting in the way anyway... plus i have the H in a Crx.. not fun to do timing side stuff on it! if it were mine i'd either file that hump down or like Pirate said heat it up and push it in.

Have you solved the problem yet? Is that bracket with the 1/2" offset?
