Default ball joint help, i deperately need help

i search around h-t to see how i could remove my ball joints. its already seperated from the lower control arm and i read that i should hit the edge of the bottom part to make the ball joint pop out. well i did that for about 3 hrs and no luck. does any one know any good technique for taking the ball joint out cause i need to replace. if there is someone in los angeles that is willing to drive to my house to take it out i'll pay you. help meeeeee please.

You're trying to get the ball joint out of the knuckle so you can replace it? Is that what's going on?

There is a little ring that holds the ball joint in. You need some special pliers - I don't remember exactly what they're called but you can buy them at auto zone. (maybe snap ring pliers?) They have pointy little ends and spread the clip. If you look at the ball joint, you'll see what I mean. Pop that clip off. Get a big sledge. Bash the hell out of it on the threaded end side. It will come off.

Yep. You need to remove the circlip with snap ring pliers before you can hammer it out of the knuckle.

I was going to do a write-up on this, should have done it earlier. I took pictures when I was doing mine a few months ago.

The above two guys explained it right, you have to remove the ring. However, you can just use your ordinary pliers to get it out, no special tool needed. Try to use a piece of wood when hammering the new ball joint in.

That's a method for separating the ball joint from the lower control arm, not removing it from the knuckle.

So you've already removed the ball joint from the lca (using the youtube video method)?

Did you remove the dust ring? Then all you need to do is hammer the balljoint from the bottom, and it should come out. It'll probably take a dozen hard smacks.

find a nut that fits thread it on so its flush with the ball joint.

also soak it on some wd40. find yourself a decent sized hammer. a regular household hammer will not do the job.

usually takes a few good hits they come right out.

lol lesson learned. from now on to hit it out use regular metal hammer, but use rubber mallet to hit it back in.

Correct. Well, the rubber mallet was too big, so I took a piece of wood and hammered the wood.

But removing it, I did the same thing; hammering the crap out of it with my normal hammer.

I greased a little to get the new one in.
