Default Valve adjustment then Stalling/low idle

Now, after the valve adjustment the sound of my motor is music to my ears. Here's the problem though:

After letting it sit over night, on the first crank, the car would start up but the idle would drop to about 500 rpms and then hesititates...then dies. Start it again but the car would stall then dies agian. One more time, but put my feet on the gas pedal and floor it and only if I keep my feet on the pedal will it stay on. I slowly take my foot off the gas pedal and the rpm will slowly drop to a point where the car would idle at 500-700 rpms and you would feel/hear the engine hesitate to stay on--with my feet completely off the pedal.

BUT, once the car gets going, rpm stays around 750 and sounds amazingly quiet. No hesitation whatsoever. This only happens when the car sits over night or if i let the car sit for a good 8 or so hours.

Please help. Sorry for the long rant, just wanted to be precise and provide as much info as possible. TIA.

Was the engine cold when you adjusted the valves? it sounds like they could be adjusted a bit tight.

the car sat over night so it was cold. Normal temp here is around 20 degrees. Over night is about 10 degrees.

I adjusted them to spec (accordingly to haynes manual).

.006 intake
.007 exhaust.

what are you talking about??? like end005 said... .006 and .007, i have mine at that and it runs perfectly, i then put crower stage 2 turbo cams in and they arent even that high, they are only supposed be set at .006 and .008

you may wanna recheck where ever you read that or who ever told you that... because haynes manual says .006 and .007 cold, mine and my buddies software from 2 DIFFERENT school also say .006 and .007 cold

0.006" and 0.008" for the Intake and exhaust is within spec for a B18C.

OP, how much drag was on the feeler gauges? Did you recheck the clearance after tightening the tappets?

I don't know where you got that information, but that's wrong.

I did recheck the clearance and in terms of drag, there was drag for the intake side to the point where .007 wouldn't fit. Same thing towards the exhaust side as well but the .008 wouldn't fit. Hopefully that made some sense.

If the 0.008" would not fit on the exhaust side, those valves are most likely too tight. You should still be able to install the 0.008" with slight drag but not the 0.009".

Anyway, I looked at your original post. Do you think that the IACV could have coincidentally developed an issue when the valve adjustment was completed? What year is the car? Are there any CELs?

The CEL light is on because i'm not running the 2nd O2 sensor. Possibly the IACV developed an issue but its been extremely cold here so I havent' had time to check it out. I just bite the bullet with the way it is for now since its my dd.

The car is a 98 GSR, jrsc.

I haven't had time to check my iacv but i figured that if it was, it would have been doing that BEFORE the valve adjustment. I have adjustable cam gears and my exhaust cam gear was adjusted. I think that's the issue. My temporary fix was, I just adjusted the idle screw on the tb. Its working fine for now but i've yet to put the exhaust cam back to stock and check to see if they're too tight...which I doubt. I think its my exhaust cam.

GL man. let me know what you find.
