Help me figure out engine stuff
Ok, I can't remember if I've posted this before, but I was wondering if anyone has any insight into the nature of my engine and tranny.
Ok, the person I bought it from has everything saying that the engine is a Spoon crate from inline4. Paperwork checks out ok, but what the hell is up with the code on the block? Could this have been a GSR engine? (Sir-G) The head is ITR. I know that for sure. But does anyone have any insight into why the block is stamped this way? (picture at bottom)
also, my tranny doesn't have an "ink" stamp on it. No LSD or R4 or anything like that. The sticker on the tranny says S4C, and I was told it's from a CTR. If I was to go get the rest of the number off the tranny, after the S4C would someone be able to ID it for me? Owner said it had the 4.78 ITR Circuit tranny when I bought it. Help a fellow ITR owner out!
As you can see, the block is stamped "B18C" and then a little "5" after it. Was this done for DEQ reasons?

the more I look at that picture, and the "un-even" -ness of the block numbers, the more I get an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. See how the ID numbers are kinda wavy?
and maybe, whoever restamped it didn't have the "correct" number 5, so they used the one from the ID code.
crap.

I don't know why the small 5 is stamped on there, but JDM ITR and SIRG blocks came with just a B18C stamp on it.
and heres a posting made about the ink stamps on ITR transmissions. SC4 isn't even mentioned

that looks like a stolen motor re-stamped... ive heard of pple in nj here doin that **** all the time.... or could just be cuz its a crate motor... i just got my sleeved k24 from erl and it doesnt say k24 on it.. it just has a serial number they stamped on it with a it written on paper so i know my motor is always legit

I know that about the JDM b18c being both GSR and ITR.
what I mean is, if the block were a GSR block, they could have stamped the little 5 on there just to pass it off as ITR. The head is an ITR head though, for sure. (I think? LOL)
as for the tranny, the S4C isn't an ink stamp. Mine doesn't have an ink stamp. (most have LSD stamped, and then a letter number combo ---> CTR is R4) mine is just clean and blank. The tranny casing IS jdm, you can tell because the VIN plate rivet holes are smooth, no threads. The sticker on the tranny, above the slave cylinder, says S4C as the first set of digits. Same as my EM1. And I know that the tranny DOES have LSD. I was just wondering if this was a CTR tranny? Or if anyone had any insight into this? I've been searching the boards and the web, and haven't really gotten a good clean answer.
Also, I hate to say this about the block, but my theory is that it's completely restamped. Is there any way to use the ID code to get info about the thing? Anyone? The head is a PR3-4 manufactured in 2000.

The "S4C" sticker on your tranny means it is from a 96-00 civic chassis. So it is a CTR tranny. A lot of times when people clean the trannies the ink comes off showing the LSD stamp.
As for your block numbers, they look really sketchy and are definitely not stamped from Honda. Maybe someone added the serial number so cops wouldn't get suspicious.

Thats what happen to my ITR transmission.

do you guys think I should contact anybody about this? Police or something?
I've owned the car for over a year now. Haven't had any problems. It's registered and DEQ'd and everything. So I dunno what to do.
I guess if it doesn't hurt anybody, I'll just let it go. The car runs good, and I drive the **** out of it. So.... no harm no foul?

did u contact Inline4 to see what they say regarding spoon crate motors they sell? **** def looks sketchy as all hell.
you say it runs good, but have you ever dynoed it to get an idea how much power its making? i would assume it should make much more than a stock motor.

Exactly...if inlinefour says that didnt come from them (doesnt look like it did from the pics), i would definately contact the seller.
But why did it take you over a year to question the motor anyways?

The Spoon crate motor is just a stock JDM ITR motor that has been balanced and blue printed from Spoon. All of the internals are stock so it shouldn't make any crazy horsepower numbers but should be pretty bulletproof.
Now I'm no expert at this but just judging from your pictures, that motor looks pretty dirty and oxidized. I'd imagine if it was originally a Spoon crate motor that it would still look like new if someone bought the engine from Inline4 and had it installed here in the US.

I hear what you are saying about the oxidation. It might just be the pictures, but it is actually pretty clean.
The engine, with Spoon cams and everything else the way Honda intended with a chrome tune made 190 at the wheels. So it's actually pretty strong. It pulls really hard too.
The only reason I'm questioning this now, is because I started tearing the car apart, and finding all the "little" things that I never found before (the impression of a nitrous line in the rear plastic, under the seat cushion
)
I just thought the numbers on the block looked sketchy. That is a good idea. I should call up Inline4 and see if they have any info.

I don't know if these would help but here are the pictures of the head & block of JDM ITR 98 Spec engines that I have!

For JDM Engines, GSR/Type R have the same B18C, Honda doesn't put additional number on either block. From what I also know, they're basically the same block [wouldn't say 100% but close] the difference are in the head [between GSR/Type R]

The head is definitely PR3-3 all around, I've got both 98 Spec head manufactured in 98 & 99 and it's identical.
I hope this helps one way or the other.
