First off, 200+ whp on the stock d15b2 bottom end is asking for the impossible, especially if it has the usual 100-200k miles on it. That said, the answer to how long a 300whp d15b2/y8 combo would last - a week at best.

In most cases, a vehicle with a b2 block is an already light chassis (EF), so 150-200whp is more than enough for a fun DD. For a budget, I'd suggest a volvo/saab turbo (50trim T3 aka the ".42/.48"). At just 6psi you'd be at tuned NA B16 whp numbers, but with much more torque. At 11psi, you'd be at/beyond tuned GSR numbers.

You can make a decent kit with a turbo like that for under $1500 for everything.

Just get a D16 bottom end. That B2 has got to be tired by now. But I agree that 150-175 whp will be plenty fast for your first turbo setup.

Boosting minime setups are bad news. Timing problems acure when you mix match heads on d-series. Get yourself a d16z6 and call it the day!

A y8 block will be fine. Got any pics of that head?
