Cursing out loud usally helps.
Its under the dash board. Its held in place by one 10mm bolt. I had to bend the metal part that connects the relay to the bolt, then reach up with a 10mm wrench and undo the bolt.

i couldnt find the damn bolt on both of the ludes when it needed resoldering
but i just unclipped the main relay from the outter cover
found it much easier and faster
just remember which is up and down

just buy a new one man. they do not cost much. I had a hard time getting to the bolt that holds it to the dash. I just reached up and unplugged the harness and plugged it to my new one. the new one is held with a zip tie to the steering column.
the best thing for me was to remove my front dash board then cut a small peace of plastic and cotton that was there and i got easy access to the bolt.its right where the mph gauge is at. stright back where like the 20 mph number is at

He wasn't saying not to leave it. He was just saying he thinks it's funny when people just leave it there. I read it the same way you did and then said "wait, thats not right" . It took me a bit
When it was real hot outside.....that was my issue.....
If I was able to get to it(6'6" with XXL hands) you little people should be able to get it done.....
Pop it out of its case and replace it.....
Soldering works.....until it leaves you stranded b/c you cheaped out on $40.

The main relay has nothing to do with the starter circuit (ie.. cranking) When you turn the key to "on", you will hear the fuel pump prime the system and the check engine light will do a bulb check. After about 2 seconds, The check engine light will turn off and the main relay will click.IF ALL THIS IS HAPPENING, The main relay is probably OK. Resoldering the joints on the board is a dependable repair. Hope I was able to help!
1990 Prelude here. Problem here is that it always works when you're trying to show something's wrong. I'm pretty sure it's my main relay because every so often it won't start after sitting in the sun all day but always starts in the morning. When it happens, it's as if there's no spark going to the plugs and after cranking for a while I smell a bit of fuel in the tailpipe. Then for no reason at all 5-10 minutes or in this case, 3 hours later today, it finally started fine. I don't think it's the coil/distributor, because it's never quit while running and always runs smooth, only when trying to start. Will the continuity check be able to tell you if it's bad or do you need to yank it right when you're having the problem to test? It's hard for me to hear stuff like fuel pump and whatnot come on when I have to be inside the car to turn the key.
What IF the CEL does NOT come on, would that mean its the main relay?
I hear the click but no CEL, I see the other lights, oil and all others light up....
would a random working speedometer have anything to do with this?
