which tranny to get...
i was wondering which tranny would be the best for my fully built turbo ls... i will be using as a dd but also at the track where it will be running a rediculous amount of boost for track... type r, gsr, or ls...

is your turbo custom made?
if you got shorter gears means that you will shift quicker and will not get the full potential of your turbo. vtec
if you got longer gears means you will shift slower and get the full potential of your turbo. ls
did you check the force induction section here?

i have a custom turbo kit, the turbos 1.15ar exhaust and .60ar intake side... it starts spoolin at just over 3k rpm... i found a type r that has a 4.4 final and another with a 4.78 final... you think either those would be ok? and no i havent tried forced induction yet, i figured id try here first since this isnt really completely forced induction related...

Ahh someone with brains!
I agree 100%. LS trans (put an LSD in there) for turbo'ed vehicles and the shorter gears GSR/B16/Type R trans for all motor builds.
Longer gears = stay in boost longer.

I would agree with this.
But, it really would depened on your application. And since you can't change the gear ratio every day you will want to take a look at what you will be doing most of the time and pick the transmission for that. I would recomemend the GSR for a dd with maybe a final drive swap. Do some research and see what you want. I've read a million pros and cons about the different tranny's on here. From what i gather the ls is pretty much junk, maybe you could give that a final drive swap and get what you are looking for. 16 for top acceleration, and gsr for best of both worlds

well i found the ratios for the ls, type r, gsr, and b16a

i can also pick up and swap the final out on either of the type r ones with one that makes it 4.06 for the final drive and is for making it real good for turbo...
thanks for the input so far everyone, definetely a lot of things i gotta look at tonight and try figuring this out... but keep the advise and input comeing

Unless traction is an issue, shorter gears will help, not hurt acceleration. By your "reasoning", you should shift into 5th a quickly as possible to enjoy the spooled turbo.
The best transmission choice would depend on the OP's WHP. Have any of you asked that question, or do you simply want to regurgitate canned and fundamentally flawed statements?
Regarding gear ratios and transmission features, see this link:

ITR as bigger bearings then B16A and as an LSD. But with 4.40 or 4.785 FD as a fd I recomend a ls 5th gears..wont affect your time @ the track but will save you gas on the highway.
