When I crank the engine, it makes a screech sound before jumping to life. Pretty sure it is not the engine or belts (new). What else could it be?

 

Still could be the belts if not properly tensioned(ive been there). Or a pulley. I would check tension first.

 

spray wd 40 0n the belts and start the car, if the noise went away it means your belts are too loose...........try it .

 

Nope. No effect. Actually the sound not during the initial part of cranking. It appears just before the engine comes to life... sounds like 2 metal pieces rubbing together.
