Default I'm in a bit of a situation....I only have so much to work with...susp. budget guru's...help me out

So, the deal is, I've had some sudden bills that I need to take care of.

My Delsol is currently runnin a GT30R on a semi build bottom end. I'd planned on building another block, which I'm now half way into. Well, now here comes these bills I have to pay, and that puts me in this spot.

Last year I bought my DelSol as a rolling chassis. I was told the suspension was in descent shape. So I do the turbo setup only to find the Tokico's in it are shot. The car handles like ***, and with the GT30 pushin 15psi on an lsvtec, no handling gets dangerous quick.

So, what I need to know is what's my best option. I've done some searching, but thought maybe someone can help me out that spends some time in the suspension world. The car has Skunk2 coilovers and blown Tokico's currently. What's the best option that's affordable (i.e. less than 350 bucks...the cheaper the better)?

thanks

I'm not gonna drive a 500whp+ car with blown Tokico's bro...thanks. Driving a 374whp car with blown Tokico's was scary enough.

I can clearly buy OEM replacement struts, or entry level Tokico's/Koni's and keep the Skunk coilovers. It isn't the best, but it certainly won't get me killed, and it's certainly better than what I have. Life happens, bills happen, and I only have so much to work with...that's the way it is.

Can I ask for some help in this forum without getting the typical bullshit answers please?

How about if I add this....what's considered the baseline cost for a "descent" setup? Is it an AGX/sleeve combo, or something like the skunk2 1 pieces, Godspeeds, etc?

if your planning to keep your sk2 coilovers then i'd save $50+ dollars and pick up the tokico illuminas. Best bang for the buck setup...the illuminas are second best to the koni yellows.

Honestly if you're building up the car the way you've outlined, why not just save up for a good suspension rather than spending SOME money on a crap suspension. It is a shame to invest so much in the power dept only to match it to a marginal suspension.

Before you go any further ask yourself what you'll be using the suspension for primarily... street, drag strip, etc and then you'll be able to choose the right suspension at the right price.

Listen...the car is on the street now, and will be on the street in the summer. Not driving it...isn't an option.

Keep in mind, I do professional fabrication. I built the turbo mani, fabbed the charge pipes, fabbed the exhaust, built the motor myself, chipped the ecu myself, and then tuned it myself. I've got 4200 bucks invested INCLUDING the car.

I'm not made of money. I do well fabbing/selling turbo manifolds, as well as being a sponsor of this site, along with others. Problem is I have alot of bills to pay this year, and I just don't have the budget.

The situation is what it is. I don't even have the loot to get rid of the *** Rota's...you know how upset I am about that! I need a descent setup to run this year...plain and simple. I'll either get a well thought out answer or just go with some tokico's like the one individual said above.

The car:

thanks for that by the way...good to know.

Im with the above. You should either get new tokicos or used konis. A user of this site and i are trying to work something out for k-sports for 400, so deals do still exist. Used parts are always a great option to cut costs as long as you feel you can trust the seller(obviously buying used suspension is risky in the first place.) If you dont plan to slam it AGX's offer you some adjustability but from what i hear they are not good for anymore than a 2" drop and thats not very much.

Everyone wants their car to be Fast, Cheap, and Reliable. Now here's the dilemma:

It can be fast and cheap, but it won't be reliable.

i don't see how WHP, turbo car non the less, can make a car scarey to drive. Simply let up on the right foot, and shift sooner, and you have your self a car that might put down 150-200whp.

My comment wasn't what you took it as, a bullshit answer.

It was an honest truth-full answer. If you didn't like it, then fine.

Non of use were aware that this was a 'low buck' ride. Simply that at this point in time you can't afford much.

I totally concur. Just let off the throttle and drive slow until you could afford some shocks. Its not like you have to save up a couple thousand. Its only 50 bucks or 100 bucks more. Put it on a credit card if you have to. I've driven on blown shocks and its not scary at all unless I'm got 80+ which is speeding, hitting the corners hard (more speeding), or putting the pedal to the medal (tire spin and more speeding). You've got to pay to play.

On another note check craigslist. My friend just picked up a brand new set of koni yellows for his integra for $400

Well, your theory applies to some people, but not all. My car is faster than the majority, extremely cheap, and as reliable as a bone stock Honda. I've done this as business for almost 10 years, yet you people talk like your coaching a noob here. I've been building these cars since before many of the people on this site even got out of grade school.

I'm asking for advice on a suspension setup, I don't need a life coach...lol.

Hahahaha....yeah right bro...I don't build these cars to f*ckin part throttle around town....lmao...

you've clearly never had a very high hp honda. The very moment I touch the pedal in second gear the speedo pegs to 64mph at bounces at 8400rpm, I bang third and I'm up over 90 in like a second or two. You can't floor the car and not have it go 80mph...lol.

Nevermind here....I thought I could ask a question and get a straight answer, but apparently few people are capable of doing so.

yeah, I'll highly enjoy scaring the **** out of people who ride in it....it's fun.... Especially with these bad struts....lol.

I was just out tonight in fact.....keep it under 80....hahaha....right.

Where is littletitz, pa...lol...?

Thanks to those who actually gave me a straight answer to my question! I'll look into some of those options listed.

Your answer was given at the top. Get the illuminas or find used konis. If you're doing this for over 10 years as a business, I don't see how 400 bucks can be a problem, But anyways, tokico illuminas are good bang per buck adjustable shocks. A little bit more, can yield you the koni yellows. Like someone said above, search craigslist if you're trying to find a deal, btw, thats a nice sol. Good luck.

You could easily find some used Tokico Illuminas/Koni Yellows with your budget.

Not a fan of Skunk2 coilovers, but whatever...

GL.
