NEED HELP!! Engine Pulse
I have a 1997 DX that under any type of engine load the RPM's and engine surges. It is in increments of 300-400 RPM's when it is surging. At idle the engine idles properly. Please HELP!! This is my daily driver.
Is the engine stock? How many miles? Recent mods? There are numerous things that could be at play here, help us out. Is it only under load, or if you rev it with no load and say...hold it steady at 4000 rpms?
An aftermarket cheapo intake, Only 83,000. If I am in park and rev, its revs normally, it is only under load, and the more the load the more the surging or pulsing is noticed.
I have been running premium in it, I replaced the spark plugs over the weekend but nothing changed. Should i try the plug wires and cap rotor etc. If it was sensor related it should be throwing a code right?

Keep in mind your rotor fires every time your plugs fire. You have 4 plugs and only one rotor, so your rotor is seeing 4 times the wear. If your plugs were in poor condition then perhaps your rotor really needs help. As cheap as a cap is, I'd do that as well. Go with the OEM cap and rotor. I've heard of problems with discount auto parts stores and the electrical products they offer for Hondas.
If it was pump or injectors related wouldnt it be doing it all the time? Hmmm, I think I am going to do the cap and rotor now, Thanks guys I will keep ya updated.
I changed the cap, rotor, spark plugs and wires and it is still doing the same thing. Please any other ideas?? No CEL, in park I can rev the throttle normally, hold it at 4,000rpm and everything seems normal. Pulsing under load, does civics have torque converters? Could it be transmission related? Any ideas would be helpful
