Default lagging when i try stepping on the gas

hey guys, i recently bought a 92 cx hatch bone stock, 1.5 vtec everytime i try stepping on the gas it lags for 2-3 seconds and then it pulls, i checked timing with the gun its good, i did notice the dizzy is advanced all the way, when i adjusted it in the middle it lags even more. motor just doesnt feel like it has power. ecu is a p07 dont know if thats the correct ecu for it, is it an auto ecu?

what should i check for?

Car running rich can be your motor running "retarded" as in not advance enough. I had this problem on my CX motor a while back. I check timing many times with the gun and the light shows it's 0 TDC. But when I took the timing belt apart and check if No. 1 piston is sync with cam, it was off. Here's a way to check.

Crank bottom crank for No. 1 piston to top dead center. Then check if cam gears are correct. (there should be 3 lines on the side of the cam, the middle should be pointed up while the two side should be parallel with the cylinder head.)

If Cam is not correct when No 1 piston is TDC then remove timing belt and adjust as needed. Idle RPM should be around 750rpm.

No. 1 piston is the piston closest to your windshield wipers fluid reservoir. A way to make sure it's TDC is either check the mark on the timing belt cover while cranking the button crank pully OR remove the No. 1 piston's spark plug and stick a long stick in, watch carefully while cranking the button crank case to see when the stick reaches it's highest point; that will then determined TDC on No. 1 piston.

Good lulck.

Once this happened to me and so I changed the spark plugs and that fixed the problem.

Honestly, try plugs and wires. I'll bet you anything it's something with the ignition system.

Same thing on my '93 EX, replaced plugs, good to go for about $10

Injector cleaner seems to help for a quick fix, but its better just to do the the spark plugs.

(This is assuming it was the same problem as my car)

What kind of wires are on there and how old are they? My car was running like sh*t like that and it was because I had some cheap wires on it and they were starting to arc.
