brake light will not turn off
Be gentle on me here guys, this is my first post in a forum in probably 3 years. I just got my 95 gs-r back up and running after about 8 months of it sitting in a lonely parking space. Put new tires on her, changed the oil, spark plugs, battery (which I scored for free at the local Wall-mart thanks to a 2 year guarantee from the manufacturer), and gave her a nice wash. The initial start-up was good, except when I put the emergency brake down, the brake light on the dash didn't shut off. I drove the car slowly around my neighborhood doing some slow sharp stops thinking my brakes were going to fail, but I was getting pretty normal braking power. I worked my way to the main street outside my neighborhood and pulled a couple passes in v-tec and the car seemed to stop just fine, but felt a lot more sluggish than what I can remember from the last time I drove the car. I just wanted to get your all's opinion on what could be throwing the light on the dash. Thanks in advance.

old car=old sensors. check your braking system (i.e fluid, and lines) if thats all good its proly the e-brake sensor that is stuck on which happens a lot in older cars. You can either buy a new one or find the sensor and bypass it. No ABS?
make sure ALL of the calipers are working, just have a friend go around to all 4 corners, and make sure they clamp. if not look on google or wiki for pressure differential valve. if they all clamp then thats not your problem, its either low fluid, stuck ebrake switch, like everyone else said.

Thanks for the responses!! The story behind the brake light is that my rear brake calipers had ceased from not being used in two and a half years. I replaced them this weekend and the light turned off. I did have a leak in the ABS system, so I had that fixed and the car is back on the prowl!
