Honda Civic cranks but won't start
I have a 93 Civic that cranks and won't start. It's like it isn't getting either fire or fuel. I replaced the Main Relay and it still won't hit. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Thanks!
check to see if you aren't getting either fuel or spark.
easiest is to see if the fuel system works normally. when you turn your key to the on position (not start), listen for the fuel pump priming. at the same time your check engine light will stay on for a couple seconds. when u hear the pump stop, the light will go out and you will hear an audible click. that click will be your main relay. this is all normal operation. if your cel stays lit, then that will tell you that there could be a few possible problems. main rel, ecu, map sensor, crank pos sen, etc.
check for spark. take off a spark plug wire from one of the plugs, use a spark plug between the wire's boot and a piece of metal such as on top of the valve cover. or you can use a screwdriver to touch the inside of the boot and the valve cover. let someone else crank the motor for you as you try to see if there is a white/blue spark. do this with all 4 wires. be careful as you are coming close to thousands of volts. safety is key. if no get no spark, check all fuses. even the under hood fuse box there is a 50a block fuse for the ignition circuit. see if they're good. distributor coils are also a very common problem that goes bad inside the housing. if all fuses and wires check out good, you may need to see if that's bad and replace it.
another thing that may help your troubleshooting process is the use of a multimeter. best way is start start at the last known source of power. where are you getting power? where aren't you? it's a very handy tool.
let us know what you find. and be specific about your troubleshooting process so we can further understand the help you need.

timing is also important. w/o correct timing you wont got proper combustion. are you're plug wires hooked up in the right firing order?

First. I want to thank everyone for helping me out.
I tested to see if I was getting spark and I am not. Where should I check now? The coil? Should I take a test light and see if I am getting power to the coil? The thing that worries me is that whatever caused the 80 amp battery fuse to blow (in the engine bay) blew something else that I don't know about.
HISTORY: I let someone use my car they called and said it won't do anything (no power, wont crank, wont do anything). They drove it there, got out and when they went to get back in and start it up it wouldn't do anything. I went to where it was and looked at the fuses and the 80 amp was blown. I replaced that, I now have all the power, but it just cranks and cranks and won't hit.
So would the coil be the next place to look?
Thanks

first, check to see if the 50a fuse and pos coil wire is good and receiving 12v when your key is ON, not start. use a multimeter. the wire will be blue or green (can't remember) on the dizzy wire plug(there's 2 plugs, check the plug w/ less wires). this will confirm you're getting 12v to the coil. take out the coil and ohms check it. if it's bad, which is highly probable, replace it.
