Hey guys!
Need some help deciding what to do regarding a clutch.
I'm building an ls/vtec with a jackson racing supercharger.
The build is going to make 280whp-300whp and 210-215 lbs of torque. This is setup is going to be my daily driver and weekend drag racer.
For the strip I will be adding 100shot so torque should be at 280 lbs.
I currently have an exedy stage 1 and I love the feel of it (stiffer than stock)
After doing some research I've come up with 3 companies that I'm thinking of using:
-ACT: HDR6 solid or HDG6 sprung
-Clutch Masters: Stage 3 or Stage 4
-Competition Clutch: Stage 3 or Stage 4
My opinions:
-The price for the ACT is decent but I've read so many horror stories about ACT that I'm really starting to get worried.
I don't want to screw up my whole setup or have to worry about the clutch failing on me.
-Clutch Masters only found 2 bad stories about it but the price seems abit high. I will have to check to see what prices I can get on these clutches.
-Competition Clutch found a few bad stories but nothing compared to ACT. Alot more good stories and peolpe beeing happy with it and it's price is decent.
Just to let you guys know, I'll probably be using the same flywheel as the clutch.
So what company do you guys use, suggest, prefer?
Also let me know which model you suggest for my setup

ACT: HDR6 solid
in all of my years of using ACT clutchs ive never had a problem... i had one problem with pressure plate fingers coming "loose" but ACT replaced it under warrenty.
they are a great company
imo, sprung hubs are trash. the springs will break or fall out.

Went comp clutch stage 4 and it held for a while, but then started slipping. Now running an act xtreme pp with unsprung disk. Don't chatter bad and holds great. Will see how long it lasts.
For that power goal, the Exedy Stage 2 will hold just fine. I daily drove the stage 2 with 375hp for about 1.5 years so I know it will hold. Now I daily drive the Exedy Twin it's just as easy as the stage 2 clutch. Takes off perfectly smooth and has been in there for about 1.5 years and roughly 35,000 miles

Thanks for the votes guys! But let's keep them coming.
I spoke to Exedy about this and they advised me not to take Stage 2. They higly recommended I take the stage 3.
The stage 3 got a heavy price tag on it though! This is why I'm considering the brands you see above.

I got a competition clutch stage 4. Pedal feel is close to stock not much stiffer. Haven't ran the car hard yet due to a few leaks after the swap. Should be able to give you a better review by the end of the week.
ive had about 4 ACT pressure plates break on me personally.....but still continued to use their stuff until i went with a twin disk.
we havnt had any problems with the competition clutch single disk clutches and we have installed a ton of them.

Never heard horror stories with ACT myself, I did have a buddy that burned up a couple in 2 weeks but he literally thought slipping the clutch during a burnout with drag radials was a good thing lol,
going on 9 years using ACT beating the living **** out of them and not a failure yet. I vote ACT all day every day.
The HDSS is rated at 240ft lbs I believe so the Xtreme with street disc should be fine. Or maybe a HD PP with puck disc? I dont like pucks myself so I try to not use them when I can and I also try to get sprung hubs to help with shockload.
