Idle surge,Please help!
well, I have search and still can't figure it out. Once my car is warm and when I tap on the gas and let go the car would idle to zero and go back up. But the funny thing is during it's idle the lights (cluster, climate control and headlights) all dim and go back to normal. WEIRD! Please help. And to mention It is a 96 civic hatchback with a obd1 LS motor in a obd 2 car. Other then that ,All comments are welcome. Thank you

this problem seems to come up once a week or so..have you tried cleaning out your iacv? have your idle been adjusted before?

try cleaning it out and adjusting, I just can't figure it out. I asked and asked many people and still can't figure it out not just only myself but others too. I know I missing something or maybe there is something I have to replace. But I want to make sure when I replace something it is going to correct the problem. I've been riding with this idle surge for a year now and can't stand it no more. so any suggestion please tell, Thank you for responding tho, I really appreciate it.
are you talking about the FITV. If so I'll try it tomorrow if it stop raining but anymore suggestion would help. by the way why would my light dim during idle? is it a voltage problem? Thank you for responding

take off your intake and cover the bottom hole...

The fitv mainlt control idle when the motor is cold. I dont think the fitv will cause it to go down to zero, most of the time if the fitv is the problem you will have a hunting and surging idle. I would pick the iacv over the fitv on this problem. The reason your lights dim is because your motor almost dies the alternator is barely spinning thus giving low electricity, which = dim lights, and they return to normal because the idle goes back up.

WOW, that is the exact problem on my car. Thank you for taking your time to respond. This is getting exciting because I feel like I close to figuring out this problem so please any more suggestion please do so. But with the IAC I've taken it out and spray and clean and even block it at first it stop idling and then it went back to normal. Do you think I should replace it? or is there any other problem with it. As in for the alternator that have already been replace.

well if you cover the hole, the problem will go away, but it wont SOLVE it... you would want to replace it..
i dont remeber which hole belongs to what, but i was told what you quoted me...
(if you cover the bottom hole and the pulsing idle goes away, then its the iacv.. change it)
changed the iacv, and the problem went away...

so are you your that I should REPLACE the IAC? if so I hope this will solve the problem. Is there anything else that you or anybody suggest that I should take a look at . Thank you cuda for responding
it did go away. I also clean it and then right after it went back to idling again. So tomorrow i will go to the junk yard and see if i can pick up a new or use iac. Thank you
