Specifying stock spring replacement?
Hi and OK,
Silly *ss question. I'm planning on new brakes and shocks (Koni) this spring. I would like to drop the car ever so slightly (1/2 inch?) and stiffen the rears to improve rotation.
Aftermarket companies like H&R have lowering springs but won't divulge the specs as to stiffness. Is there any spring company that you can go to, with specs, that will sell springs to fit the car? Do the springs on our R's match up to any standard specs?
Thanks,
John

If you're ketting Koni Yellows, you can lower the car about half an inch or maybe a little more, I don't know exactly, with just the shock. Yellows have a lower spring perch you can use. The yellows will also allow you to adjust the damping levels between front and rear, which might help you with rotation. If that's not enough, a JDM ITR rear sway will help a bit more too. Just a thought. Otherwise...I think Eibach makes custom springs at rates and lengths you specify. Good luck!
the reason h&r and other companies dont have "spring rate" on the lowering springs is because the springs are not a linear drop, but are a progressive drop, meaning the spring rate changes whenever it is compressed, there is no real spring rate for progressive springs
Thanks Guys,
I already have the JDM 1 MM larger rear bar and it was a nice improvement, just not enough. Never enough<LOL>
That's a great point on the progressive springs. My understanding of the stock ITR springs is that they are rated at 240 linear in the front and 180 progressive in the rear.
My first thought (usually wrong) is to get a pair of the fronts, shorten them and install them in the rear if the I.D.s are the same.
Has anyone measured the OD or ID of the stock springs?
Thanks,
John
