Bar'd gsr swap??
I'm picking up a 96 hatch w/usdm 1998 b18c1 swap tomorrow, to add to my car collection. And plan to get it bar'd later on though, it's completely bone stock including ecu. Since it's a usdm engine, I assume getting it bar'd should be much easy. Obviously since everything is usdm spec but, could there be anything else that would still need replacing or changing? And by the way I'm in Socal too.
If everything on the motor is OEM including the intake and exhaust manifolds, ecu and comes with a cat, you should be fine. If it BAR's, you will be able to resell for lots of money. Good luck!
I forgot ask, but can a GSR engine still be bar'd if it's using a B16 tranny. If so, would it matter if it's a usdm or jdm b16 tranny?

from what i know, everything has to be spec for it to pass. meaning everything from the exhaust to the ecu, manifold, tranny, everything. but thats just what i heard. not sure if its true.

Thats for sure, I'm just curious if using a different transmission affects the BAR process.

Sorry to bring up an old topic but I didn't wanna make another thread about somethin that was already up.
So anyways...I'm pickin up a GSR swapped 94 Si from my friend, and he also bought the car wif the swap. I've seen the motor in the car, everything is stock and it is a US motor.
My question is...is there anything else I need to check or make sure is carb legal before taking it in to get it BAR'd? Do I need paperwork or anything sayin that the motor isn't stolen or anything? Or should I just take it in?

you don't need paper work proving you bought it. if i was you i would have it pretested before taking it to get it BARed.

Bar'ed is when you have a BAR ref test a car that has been modified from the original set-up. If you stay with the same motor or another motor that was offered in it you don't need to BAR it. Example: Chevy truck 4.3 ltr 6cyl replaced with same year 5.7 ltr V8. The option has to be offered by the manufacture.
When passed the BAR ref's inspection you get a BAR label then any smog shop can smog it.
You can have aftermarket parts on it when BARing it, but the parts have to be C.A.R.B. approved. (California Air Resources Board)
If the car is stock it has all of the emissions parts for this motor hooked up you should be alright. Remember there are three parts to the BAR check too. a visual inspection, a functional inspection and the emissions.

Changing the tranny will not affect emissions, so I doubt they can deny your motor BAR potential b/c of that. Please correct me IF I'm wrong.

The tranny does not matter. But it can help or hurt because it would change the gearing and that would change the rpm range that test would be performed at.
And yes you have to have the ecu and the emissions equipment for the motor.
