what is the problem? did you put new cams in? if its stock then you need to line up the little marks on the cam gears with the mark on the crank shaft on the block to TDC put the timing belt on and it should be timed correctly.

i think you are not understanding. take the timing belt off and put your crank at tdc and your cam gears at tdc.

They will man..sometimes the springs make them retract back a little bit. but you can get it. Trust me i just did it about 5 times in the past couple weeks.

Its simple, all you do is find the holes on the cam shaft by the cam gears. Stick something metal in the hole. I don't exactly remember what size but it was like 5/32 or something like that. To turn the cam gears get a 12 mm and turn it until you see the holes on the cam shaft. Stick the stick in, then thats all for the top and thats TDC. Now all you have to concentrate on is lining up the crank shaft pully to TDC and then throw on the timing belt. Adjust the tensioner and make sure its all tight on all sides, put everything back together and start that baby up.

It's tricky if you've never done it before. Like stated above, the cams with move because the pressure from the valvesprings, but it just takes some time.

Get someone who has done it to help you. Or get a friend to hold the camshaft in place using a 14mm and you put the timing belt on.

Get the timing belt on the crank, then route it up along the tensioner, waterpump, intake cam, exhaust cam.

I don't think you guys understand this guy. I believe he knows what he is semi-doing because he has the crank aligned and the exhaust cam aligned, but can't get the intake cam aligned. Aligning the cams is as simple as placing an appropriately sized drill bit in the hole to keep them aligned. Hope that helps... Beyond that, I have no knowledge of why they wouldn't stay anywhere near the TDC if nothing is wrong.

I have a Q's too. I'm doing a valve adjustment on my LS (stock) and the indicator marks on the cam teeth are slightly off. So is the timing belt off, cams off, or what? On my Gs-R everything went smooth.

-Note: First time doing it on the LS.

Suppose to look like this:

But not as far off as this... more like 1 1/2 teeth off (from the above picture).

If the head you are using has been milled to much you will have that problem and you will need adjustable timing sprockets to correct it. Check if the head has been milled !!
