Default d15b vtec vs. zc

hey guys, i searched and looked around in the faq, but couldn't quite find info on these engines.. i know one has a couple more hp than the other, but other than that, which engine would you reccomend? would i have to get a new ecu for the vtec, aswell? its going into a 1991 hatch si.

The D15b vtec has more power.

Im pretty sure the ZC there is almost identical to the non vtec d16 that came in the SI and EX civic.

i would go with the zc, but the 92-95 one bc they came vtec and similiar to a non vtec b16. Im pretty sure they come with 130 hp. My boy put one his his bubble with intake, headers, exhaust and i think a intake manifold and ran a 14.9 w.o tune and wasnt running right.

if I remeber correct the SOHC ZC 88-91 has 120HP while the other D15B Vtec has 130HP accurding to hmotorsonline.com The D15B is for 92-95 Civics/Del Solds wiring is for OBD-1. On aftermarket support on parts for FI I say the SOHC ZC is best choice is just like the D16A6 but different cam and maybe diff comp havent research that in a while. Check thezcr.com

Well i think the d15b has good support too, you just have to know exactly what part you are looking for and compare it to the US spec.

the VTEC ZC is SOHC and is OBD1. the D15b is also SOHC and VTEC. they are pretty similar engines besides the d being 1.5l and the zc being 1.6l. I just bought a VTEC ZC, HP numbers are both 130hp. zc has a touch bit more torque IIRC, due to the extra little bit of displacement. Its easier to get parts for the ZC too since it is basically a D16Z6.
