HELP - Fuel Pump Running all the time!!! Bad ECU???? - URGENT Car is DOA!
Hi, All:
Newbie here. Car is '96 ITR (my nephew's). Was shutting off randomly so he took it to his mechanic. No CEL or codes stored. While they were troubleshooting,
fuel pump would run as soon as key turned on and stays running, flooding the engine with fuel!!! IIRC, it's only supposed to run for 20 secs when key is twisted, then shut off if engine is not cranking. Tech determined that ECU was bad. Opened it up and found burned lands and chip. Got used ECU, but SAME THING... fuel pump runs all the time, without engine turning over... opened ECU, but looks fine inside. Replaced distributor since it sends synch signal to ECU to start things off... no difference. Checked conection from ECU to Fuel Pump Relay, and it's active as soon as key is turned, and stays active. Tech thinks used ECU may be bad.
Anyone have any ideas?? Is this a 'known' issue with ITR's? Used ECU was tough to find....

try posting in the integra type R forum, guys there are pretty cool and might know a little more...
Honestly, your "tech" doesn't seem so knowledgeable if he cannot solve what appears to be such a simple electrical problem.
Check the main relay which controls the fuel pump, and start pulling fuses.
You really need to look over everything first and realize what parts are, and aren't related to the system but grab a fuel pump wiring diagram and start from there.

tech is a tard, you dont just throw parts at a car and hope you figured it out. Main relay is one of the firsts, i would get a shop manual for the vehicle, get a digital multi meter, and use logic seems to solve alot of my problems. Also try going straight to the fuel pump "power" side see what voltage you have and how it responds to the main relay and turning the key. Just go down the line
The relay is a dual relay, that is to say that it is two relays in one. The first relay powers up the computer and supplies power for the second relay. Once the computer is powered up, it will ground the second relay, which supplies power to the fuel pump. There are three conditions that will cause the computer to activate the fuel-pump half of the main relay:
* When the key is turned on, the computer will run the fuel pump for two seconds.
* When the starter is engaged.
* When there is a tach signal to the computer.
this had some good info

Guys:
Thanks for your help!! I forwarded the info on to the Tech (small town USA, not used to dealing with anything this 'involved'...) They are going to check the tach input to the computer to see if it's possibly causing the ECU to turn the Fuel Pump on and open the Inj's full-on. If I weren't 2 hrs away, I'd probably be rolling up my sleeves myself!
