Default Anyone in MD wanna help me pull my motor?

I have the motor stripped down in the engine bay, bottom mounts taken out, all coolant lines, fluids drained, etc. All I have left is the axles (never done it before), wire harness, shift linkage, and once its chained up on the hoist I gotta take the last 2 mounts out.

I gotta get the motor out by next friday, and my buddy that has done this 100 times before canceled on me because of some personal committments. I have the engine hoist sitting at my house, its probably only like 2 hours of work if anyone in MD or kinda near baltimore has done this before and wants to make a easy $100.

Let me know guys. I'd try to do it myself, but don't want to risk getting myself in a bad position.....

shoot, if i were still there on my business trip, i'd help you out just for kicks. i've only done it a couple times, but if you just follow the helm's manual, you can't go wrong.

words of advice: the hardest part for me is always popping the intermediate shaft out on the driver's side... use a small crowbar or a thick screwdriver and a mallet to get that piece out. also, make sure you have the engine REALLY strapped in to your hoist harness/chain mechanism.

I appreciate it man...I was thinking that if no one comes through for me, I might just take it out peice by peice with some muscle from friend....I can take the head out in about 20 mins.

Problem is I don't have a helms and don't know where I could buy one. I have the 'other' book I bought from Salvo (forget name of it now) but its NO good lol. Everytime I work on the car I have to figure things out on my own because its so undetailed. haha

Save your $100. You can do it yourself, no problem. I pulled a motor out of my old EK by myself from the bottom with no lift.

You shouldn't have any problem doing this yourself. Wire harness just unplugs at the shock tower, shift linkage can be a pain getting that pin out if you don't have a punch, axles are a breeze once you get the lower ball joint loose.
I put my motor in by myself and it's really all about the angle of your dangle. Just make sure you don't get the motor caught on anything hanging off the firewall.

Yea I guess my biggest fear is the axles. Really have no idea how to get them out. I mean the engine hoist is sitting there begging me to use it. I gotta get the motor out and bare by Friday haha. Should be interesting.

Axles will be the easy part. When I dropped my transmission last time I didn't even remove the axles from the hubs.

Just unbolt the bottom ball joint on both sides.

For the passenger side take a big screw driver and pry in between the axle and the tranny case. Not much work is needed here were just trying to make the snap ring release. Once the axle pops out a little. Have a friend pull out on the hub and while your under the car give the axle some more persavisness to come out.

Should come outwithout a problem.

The drivers side you need to remove (3 or 4) 14 mm bolts that hold the intermediate shaft up. Once you ubolt this the flange will fly down so why your fingers (It can hurt). On this side I have someone pull out on the hub and then I would take a rubber mallet and hit the flange on the intermediate shaft until it comes out. (I never remove the intermediate shaft from the drivers side axle)

There is a metal disc on the drivers side that covers up the axle seal. Don't put a screwdriver in this. It wont do anything.

The hardest part is going to be the shift linkage if you remove it from the tranny side. That pin can be the biggest PITA ever.

i dropped and then installed my motor with a broken left arm by myself! if you have a hoist then you are set.

leave the mounts hooked up, pop out the axles, take off the linkage, disconnect hoses sensors harness, tension the hoist to support the motor, take off the mounts, lift it out.

What time would be best for you? And do you have all the tools needed?

Rob, you'll spend near $40 in gas probably, but I'll cover that for you.... I have all the tools except the ball joint remover, which I will try and pick up tomorrow somewhere.

Dont' know what else I would need in terms of tools other than that...have a 32mm socket for the hub bolt, etc.

Have the hoist sitting there. Any chance of tomorrow instead? And Sunday would be as early as you could make it if you can't do tomorrow.

haha I forgot about the tolls...well Honestly I can't really afford to drop $200, so I guess I'll just have to figure it all out.

no ball joint tool needed...all you need is a jack and a mini sledge hammer.

i'd give you a hand with this, but i'm out of town until monday.
