Default Attn: 5th Gen owners --- How many kms before you change the oil?

I am 5th Gen owner, and I find my car is burning oil quickly, I am just wanting to compare my consumption to others...

Do you find you need to add oil before 5000 kms is up?

Currently I had to add oil @ 3000 kms , it was nearing the end of the dip stick... my honda mechanic friend says its normal for ludes to burn oil... right now in the process of doing a oil consumption test for it.

So how many kms before you have to add oil/change?

I got a 2001...

most honda owners change oil more frequently than neccessary at 3000MILES, however many KM's that is.. but anyways, check for oil leaks before anything... if it isn't leaking any oil then i believe your motor needs a rebuild or u need to do a swap.

its normal for ludes to eat some oil, especially if you vtec alot. i change every 5000 km or so, and by the time i get to it, the dipstick is abit above min...so it works out.

nothing leaking, nothing on the floor of the Garage... friend said if I were to even to attempt try and fix it, it would be an insane amount and a engine swap would be easier... but he doesnt think its serious enough to warrant either...

Ill just have to add 2 litres @ 3000 to get to the 5000 km .... then do an oil change...

Didnt know vtec causes more oil consumption... I dont think it should...

thanks for the replies, anyone else?

I experience the same thing. It definitely eats the oil.

I don't see why you would change your oil because you're running out. It's called a fill hole.

Running a 30 weight oil my car is probably 1L per 2000km.

I believe that the H22A's oil consumption is caused by a small amount of blow-by when the engine is pushed hard. The stock EGR and PCV system don't relieve crankcase pressure very well. People who have modified their valve covers to use breather tubes and catch cans often report that the oil consumption issue is greatly improved with these systems. They aren't emissions-legal, however.

My 93 VTEC used a quart of oil between changes (roughly 4800km), and my 5th gen does the same, only I now change every 8000km so I use about 1.5 quarts in between.
