94 accord CAI install and now no vtec.
Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and thought maybe i could get some help.
I recently install a CAI on my 94 accord ex and since my vtec is not working.
When i installed the intake i removed the resonator chamber b capped the vacuum line running to the back of the firewall, and unplugged the solenoid/valve the vacuum lines were attached to that was below the old intake pipe.
Anyone have any ideas. I swear that 5 out of 100 times i feel a sudden increase in power when i step on the gas around 4k to 4.5k rpm that seems like vtec is working but it is sparatic.
Any help would be appreciated.
If you go to this website. i removed item 3, and 10. I capped line 22

Thanks for your quick reply.
I have checked the oil. It's to the upper mark on the dip stick.
I even replaced the vtec solenoid with a known good one(filter and all)
Still no vtec.
This is getting frustrating.
Any other ideas.

I don't have a check engine light. That's the annoying part.
I don't really know what or where to check but if you have an idea. I've checked the wiring around the solenoid and it all "looks" okay.
Any other ideas?

you know vtec on those are so weak you can barely feel, so maybe it is kickin in
but you just cant feel it, or something isnt kickin the lobes over for vtec.
im not a pro or anything, just have worked on cars for a while now.

Prior to installing the cai i would hear the vtec engage everytime around 4250 rpms.
i know what it sounds like.
like i said in my first post, occasionaly, under wot i will hear it engage like it used to, but this rarely happens now.
i'm not expecting a huge boost in power with it engaging, it's just not hearing it i that causes me to think something is wrong. ( i got used to the sound of the engagement).
Thanks

I've never heard of VTEC to work intermittently without a CEL. If you can hear it sometimes then it is working all the time. You just can't hear it.
Why is it that everyone thinks the F22B1 VTEC is this big boom of noise and power. The VTEC in a grocery get'n F22B1 Accord is nothing more than a fuel saving lobe on the cam, not a big power adder. To get that DOHC VTEC effect in a SOHC F22B1 you will need to spend $500+ on a hard weld cam that increases the lift and duration of the VTEC cam lobe. that is the only way your going to get you VTEC back the way you had it. Or go back to your stock intake and filter.

I doubt you're hearing vtec engage on a f22b1....
It's not a visible increase in power, and it's certainly not an audible increase.
Not to mention it's variable, so it doesn't always engage at 4250 as you say.

What was that plastic "throttlebody" looking thing under the stock airbox/intake pipe?
I removed it all when I threw on my CAI, but I too left one vacuum line unplugged... it looked complicated and like it served some sort of purpose.
