frey quoted my $2400 last year. they seemed to be busy at the time, maybe thats why they asked for so much. but check with them anyway. i tried calling some other personal references and found that most ppl who do know how are only willing to take the time to do it on their own cars. if i were still in the east coast, i could have gotten it done for $1400. i ended up buying a used bolt in cage and had to add a bar to make it legal to updated specs.
The only place I know of is in Napa. Guy builds tube frame dragsters for a lot of the local v8 guys.
If you are willing to go all the way to napa (probably 1.5-2 hrs from San Jo) then I can get the contact information for you.

You might poke around and see who is doing cages and chassis for the circle track folks in your area. There are typically more of them around and most of them to really fine work. Do find references at the track and make sure that you are clear about material and dimension requirements if you go this route...
Good luck!

Your best bet is to go to a SCCA or NASA event (or circle track) and ask around.
The going rate in the Mid-Atlantic is $1200-$1500 for a GCR compliant cage built by well known road race builders. Some of the circle track guys will build a cage for $900, but you gotta spend some time with them to ensure you get what you want (NHRA and NASCAR have different rules).
Regardless of who you go to, try to see some examples of their work. I've cages that look like art work. And I've seen cages that look like a retarded penguin did the welding.
Cages do seem to be a little more expensive out here. You might also check out a guy named Mike Welch. I know that some of the local NASA guys have used him. Roger Foo's website says he is doing some limited cage work. You might drop him a email. The info about the tracks is good. You might check out who is doing what @ Altamont. As mentioned above, make sure you are real specific about requirements. I would even leave a copy of the rule book with them.
