Will this get me by???
So I posted on here that I thought I blew my head. Did a leakdown, it's the rings. Pulled the head, everything looks good, except the walls are like glass. I'm sending a block to GE to be sleeved.
Question: It may take up to 4-6 weeks to get my block back from GE, and then built at the shop. With the head off the motor, can I just pull the oil pan, remove the rod bolts, pull the pistons/rods through the top, hone block, and rering to get me by for these few weeks? It is ghetto, but I need my car up and running, and not going to do a full rebuild if I'm sending my other block to be built.

u could try it, hard to say if how much honing will be needed, thus would determine how much gap on rings
but i guess it might be worth a shot
personally i would pick up a used block for a few hundred bucks, and drive on that for a bit (thats just me)

I have a very full schedule, and do not have the time to do a swap in my driveway, in the snow. It was 4 degrees outside last night. Also, don't want to spend $300 on another crappy block. We're talking 6 weeks here. Just wanted to know if anyone had done this, and if there was anything in particular I needed to know.
Pulling the engine out doesn't take long at all. What engine do you have?
You can pull the oil pan, pull the pistons/rods, hone the cylinders and throw some new rings on there. Sure it will work, probably not for long but you don't need it to anyway. Good luck working in the snow.
