Default Wet and Dry Tire

Yokohama has discontinued the tire i have been using for years and am in need of a new tire for wet and dry traction since i have just move to florida. I have been running ES100's for years..they are good in the dry but lakcing in the wet I have been looking at the Dunlop SP sport maxx, or Pirelli P Zero Nero. Tire size is 205/40/17. If you have any suggestions im all ears.

The Goodyear F1 GS-D3 is better than either of the tires you mentioned. And that's not only my opinion, but also what the testers at Car and Driver found. It's a great tire, great on dry pavement and great in rain.

Another good wet/dry tires are the General Exclaim UHP. I'm running these in a 205/45/16 setup and they are amazingly sticky on dry pavement. In wet, it's awesome.. driving at around 70mph in a heavy downfall, no worries about swerving or hydroplaning...

Yeah General brand sounds cheap but from my point of view, they're awesome and not to mention the sidewall looks badass with rims..

When it comes to wet and dry performance, you basically have a choice between somewhat expensive, top-of-the-line tires, and value-priced "budget performance tires". If you want the very best wet and dry performance (like the original poster was looking for), you can spend a little more and get the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 (other similar tires include the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2, Pirelli PZero Nero, etc). If you're willing to sacrifice some wet and dry performance for a lower purchase price, you can get budget performance tires; in this category, the Kumho SPT and Avon Tech M500 are better than the similarly-priced Yokohama ES100 and General Exclaim UHP.

I am running the F1 GS-D3's on my Mazda3 in 205/50/17's. PHENOMINAL tire, especially in the wet. They are a HUGE improvement over the ES100's I had on several other cars, the ES100's are horrible in the wet. The Goodyear is probably the best wet weather performance tire on the market right now, and is also one of the top dry tires, you really can't go wrong.

Really? I have tried these tires and thought they were horrible. No grip at all.

I wouldn't say that the ES100 is horrible in the wet; I've been using them on the GS-R and they're actually pretty good. But I agree with your statement that the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 is even better. Of course, the F1 GS-D3 is also more expensive, and isn't available in 15" sizes for Integras or pre-'01 Civics. For those who want a lower-priced summer tire that's good wet and dry, the Kumho SPT and Avon Tech M500 are good choices over the ES100 (somewhat better in rain, too, although not as good as the F1 GS-D3).

Thanks for all the info guys...I have the ES100's now (or at least whats left of them) and they werent to bad i have driven them for years. Sadly they are now discontinued. The last retart i talked to at americas tire said they do not make the F1-GS-D3 in my size, so either they lost my business or TireRack is wrong. Either way i think thats the path im heading down if it in fact is made in my size.

Thanks again.

Actually, the ES100 is still available. I'm not sure whether they are really discontinued, or that's just what tire dealers are telling people to get them to buy a different tire. I know they're in stock in 205/40-17 at the Tire Rack, so if that's what you want, you can get them.

That's a good path. Right now the F1 GS-D3 is in stock at the Tire Rack in 205/40-17 (on special for $125), so that guy was probably trying to "bait and switch" you into buying whatever crappy tire he happened to have in stock.
