if you want better handling, you get a rear swaybar.

I prefer the OEM Honda 22mm front bar for '96-00 Civics. I'm not a fan of anything bigger, including the 26mm front bar found on the Si. Too much peg-leg wheelspin on corner exit.

Is it true that for FWD cars, a front sway bar isn't even necesary?

That's too general of a statement to be correct.

A front sway bar is a useful item under some circumstances, while it can be detrimental for others.

OK, let me re-phrase. Hondas are FWD cars so they naturally understeer right? So to corner better, one would assume that you want to eliminate as much oversteer as possible right? And in that case, wouldn't it make sense to put a big sway bar in the read and leave the front alone?

front sway bar is very usefull. for a while i only had an upgraded rear sway bar and stock in the fron along struts springs and strut bars and whencaronering hard i could tell i need the a bigger front sway bar cause halfway into the corner the inside front of the car would lift instead of stayin level through the turnonce i upgraded my front sway the car stayed level and i took the same turns much fast and harder.
