I had mine re-built by thunderbolt, cost $2500. they told me that I should change out the tranny fluid everyother oil change. it's been a year and so far so good.

lol I hope your changing oil like very 7.5K

trans fluid change 1 a year is sufficient unless you drive 30K or more. then I would do it every 30K

I could have gotten a rebuilt one for about $1800 but then comes the job of installing it or paying someone a grand to install it for you, I really didn't want to fool with it so I just paid up and had them fix it.
I change the tranny fluid every 6000 miles, the tranny mechaninc said that these trannys go bad due to bad lubrication when the fluid starts to break down and he said that the best thing to do was to change the tranny fluid every other oil change. I don't know if he is right or not but spending $20 for tranny fluid every 6000 miles is worth a shot to be on the safe side. I do my own oil and tranny fluid changes so all I have to do is pay for the fluids.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by jca1972 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I had mine re-built by thunderbolt, cost $2500. they told me that I should change out the tranny fluid everyother oil change. it's been a year and so far so good.</TD></TR></TABLE>

nooooooo.........

these transmissions go bad because

1. the main filter (a screen) gets clogged with debris

2. #1 is caused by (in most cases) the tapered roller bearings used in the differential beucase they were sub par in their quality

3. #2 causes a drop in system pressure. This in turn causes the 2nd gar clutch pack to fry becuase it was already on the low side for lubrication. Changing the fluid every 6K miles is pointless as you cannot remove what has already been trapped by the filter. Honda solved the problem by removing the INTERNAL filter and placing the filter inline with the trans cooler line (see new reman honda units). If your trans guy had any clue, he would have known this and installed an inline filter in place of the internal one and told you to cjhange it every 30K or so.

Bringing this back from the coma, could I have that service done on a transmission that's not broken yet? Remove the screen and install an inline filter? How much would you think that would cost to do?

I'm seriously considering purchasing a V6 Accord for my next car as a daily driver, and this would make it reliable. Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

Chris.

03 Acura CL/TL type S trans will fit right in

it's a lot of work though as you need a lot of CL/TL type S parts

ok...the thing is my father has one and the tranny has been repaired a couple times already and i was planning on taking the car from him and i would just get a gearbox and put in. i figured that thoses where the only ones that could be used as its the same family line the engines roll off from, J-Series.
